Dwayne Allen insisted his best play is yet to come.
"No, I don’t feel comfortable," Allen said after missing the 2013 season with a hip injury that required surgery. "It was my goal going into the season because of injuries and not having an offseason to train for this season was to get better all season long." Coach Chuck Pagano agrees that Allen is still "knocking the rust off, so to speak." Allen has seen just 30 targets this season, but has turned that into a 21-305-5 receiving line. He's one of Andrew Luck's go-to guys in the red zone at 6'3/265. We're still truly waiting for Allen to be unleashed.
Brandon Gibson confirmed he's fallen behind Jarvis Landry on the depth chart.
"It was a decision that was made and there's nothing I can do," Gibson said. Asked if there was anything he could do to leap back ahead of Landry, Gibson replied, "Nothing probably." With a $4.5 million cap hit in 2015, Gibson's days with the Dolphins are numbered. Gibson says he hasn't requested a trade.
Marshawn Lynch's agent called the report of his client "almost not getting on the team bus" to head to St. Louis after learning of Percy Harvin's trade "bogus."
The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta had the original report, saying Lynch "went off" before almost not boarding the bus. Lynch ended up rushing for 53 yards on 18 carries against the Rams. But he had a 15-yard touchdown and 18-yard run called back on penalties. Lynch is locked in as a workhorse RB1 for Week 8 against the Panthers. Carolina is allowing the 3rd-most fantasy points to running backs.
Coach Bruce Arians singled out rookie DE Ed Stinson as a player who has impressed him.
Stinson has seen his snaps rise the past couple weeks with RE Calais Campbell (knee) sidelined. The 160th pick in May out of Alabama, Stinson recorded a couple tackles, two hurries, and two stops against the Raiders last week, earning a game ball. He's been playing more than third-round DE Kareem Martin.
Patriots signed DL Alan Branch.
Branch, 30 in December, had a career-best season for the Bills in 2013, notching 39 tackles and grading out as a top-ten run-stuffing 3-4 end at Pro Football Focus. The Bills signed him to a three-year extension last December, but Branch mailed it in after the season, getting comfortable. He failed his conditioning test to open training camp, was arrested for DUI 14 hours before kickoff of a preseason game, and was then released. He's always played well against the run.
The Boston Globe reports Patriots RE Chandler Jones has a hip injury that will sideline him "about" one month.
The out-of-nowhere news is crushing for a Patriots pass rush that's been anchored by Jones this season. Jones has notched 4.5 of the Pats' 18 sacks, and been their only consistent generator of heat. This being the Pats, we may not receive an official timetable, but reporter Shalise Manza Young is very reliable. Jones' status should be updated when the Pats return to official practice on Wednesday. Jones sat out Tuesday's informal session.
Colts signed RB Jeff Demps to the practice squad.
The Olympic sprinter will bide his time on the taxi squad as he waits for a spot to open up on special teams in Indy.
Free agent WR Jon Baldwin worked out for the Giants on Tuesday.
It's the first we've heard of the 2011 first-rounder since he was waived by the Lions in early August. Baldwin appeared in seven games for the 49ers last season, but caught only three passes. He's just about washed out of the NFL.
