Mariners recalled OF Guillermo Heredia from Triple-A Tacoma.

Heredia, 25, is a Cuban defector signed during spring training and has batted .309/.399/.405 with four homers and three steals between Double- and Triple-A. He can play all three outfield spots.

Mariners optioned LHP David Rollins to Triple-A Tacoma.

Rollins has been back and forth from Triple-A to the majors many times this season, holding a 7.04 ERA over nine appearances with the big club. He'll be back up in September, if not before.

MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports that the Rangers have "touched base" with the Yankees on Carlos Beltran, "although it doesn't appear serious."

Beltran would seem to be an ideal trade target for some team as an aging veteran in the midst of a terrific walk year, although it doesn't appear the Yankees are ready to be sellers just yet. The Royals have also reportedly inquired on Beltran, although it doesn't appear those talks got anywhere, either.

ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that Jarred Cosart is one of the pieces headed to San Diego in the Andrew Cashner/Colin Rea trade.

It looks like we have all the details of the deal now, as Cashner and Rea will go to Miami and Cosart, first base prospect Josh Naylor and pitching prospect Luis Castillo will be sent to San Diego. Cosart was once a decent prospect but has flamed out the last couple seasons and been particularly awful this year with a 5.95 ERA in the majors and poor numbers at Triple-A, as well. He'll be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Brewers have received "at least one offer" for Ryan Braun but considered the offer "terrible."

Which team extended the offer isn't known. Braun is 32 and owed nearly $100 million through 2021, but he's put up a .321/.383/.515 batting line this season so the Brewers understandably don't consider this a salary dump situation. Obviously the offers will have to get much better in order for them to consider moving Braun.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Orioles have had trade discussions with the Rays regarding Erasmo Ramirez.

They would be interested in using Ramirez as a starter, as he evidently represents a backup plan after they missed out on Andrew Cashner. Ramirez has been used almost exclusively as a reliever this season and hasn't gone more than two innings since mid-May, so obviously it will take a bit for his stamina to be built back up. He holds a 3.90 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 46/16 K/BB ratio over 60 innings this season and is under team control through 2019.

T.J. McFarland (knee) threw a bullpen session on Thursday.

It's the first time he's thrown off the bump since going down with left knee tendinitis a month ago. A timetable for McFarland isn't known, but it appears he's making progress.

Joey Rickard will have his right thumb re-examined on Monday to see if he can have a splint removed.

Rickard is showing signs that he's coming along from his torn thumb ligament ahead of schedule, but he'll need to be examined further before the Orioles decide whether to accelerate his rehab. He's currently a week into a 4-6 week timetable. "I’m hoping he gets out of that splint," manager Buck Showalter said. "[Head trainer Richie Bancells] said a lot of the swelling has just about managed it’s way out of there. That’s unusual. That’s moving along good."
