Mookie Betts will take a night off Thursday.

It's his first absence in 88 games dating back to last season. Chris Young will start in right field and Blake Swihart is in left field Thursday versus the Rockies.

Dodgers optioned LHP Luis Avilan to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

This move clears a roster spot for top pitching prospect Julio Urias, who is scheduled to make his major league debut on Friday night at Citi Field. Avilan has allowed three earned runs in one inning (four appearances) this season out of the Los Angeles bullpen.
May 26 - 3:04 PM

Daniel Murphy is getting the night off Thursday.

Stephen Drew will start at second base in the Nationals' series opener against the visiting Cardinals. Murphy went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Mets and is batting .394/.426/.617 in 46 games this year.
May 26 - 2:59 PM

Jose Bautista (suspension) is in the Blue Jays' starting lineup Thursday versus the Yankees.

Bautista had his one-game suspension appeal hearing Thursday morning in New York City, but a ruling probably won't come for another couple days. He is batting leadoff Thursday afternoon against CC Sabathia.

Mark Teixeira received a cortisone injection for his sore neck on Thursday.

He's expected to miss the next three games, including Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Blue Jays. Teixeira began experiencing renewed discomfort in his neck on Wednesday, but an MRI ruled out anything serious. He should back in action Sunday if the cortisone has the intended effect.

Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the Yankees' starting lineup on Thursday against the Blue Jays.

Aaron Hicks will start in center field and bat second with Toronto throwing left-hander J.A. Happ. Ellsbury went 0-for-5 on Wednesday and has a relatively underwhelming .271/.338/.429 batting line for the year.
May 26 - 1:57 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup again on Thursday.

Tulo is feeling better, per manager John Gibbons, but the parties involved felt it wise to get the veteran shortstop one more day of rest. Darwin Barney is starting at short Thursday afternoon against the Yankees.
May 26 - 1:55 PM

Yankees placed LHP Chasen Shreve on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.

Shreve surrendered three runs on two homers and a single Wednesday in the Yankees' loss to the Blue Jays, watching his season ERA rise from 4.00 to 5.21. And he apparently woke up Thursday with an abnormal amount of discomfort in his throwing shoulder. Richard Bleier is taking over the vacant bullpen spot.
