Christian Ponder has made the Vikings 53-man roster.
In something of a surprise, the Vikings are hanging onto Ponder as their third quarterback behind Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater. It probably has something to do with his $1.76M guaranteed salary. Having received almost no first-team reps this month, Ponder is certainly on the trade block if anyone wants to bite.
Cardinals waived/released WR Brittan Golden, RB Zach Bauman, OG Philip Blake, LB Jonathan Brown, WR Dan Buckner, C John Estes, DT Bruce Gaston, TE Andre Hardy, CB Jimmy Legree, OT Kelvin Palmer, OG Anthony Steen, S Curtis Taylor, LB Adrian Tracy, DT Christian Tupou, S Anthony Walters and CB Teddy Williams.
A third-year undrafted free agent, Golden spent the majority of 2013 on the active roster, catching four passes for 136 yards. He could be headed back to the practice squad.
Seahawks waived RB Spencer Ware, TE RaShaun Allen, CB Akeem Auguste, RB Demitrius Bronson, WR Arceto Clark, QB B.J. Daniels, G Caylin Hauptmann, T Nate Isles, C Patrick Lewis, WR Chris Matthews, DE Benson Mayowa, S Terrance Parks, TE Morrell Presley, DT Andru Pulu, FB Kiero Small, DT Jimmy Staten, S Steven Terrell, LB Korey Toomer and WR Bryan Walters.
Ware, a 2013 sixth-rounder, tried to make the move from fullback to tailback. But with the Seahawks only keeping three backs (Marshawn Lynch, Robert Turbin, Christine Michael), he never had a shot. Interestingly, the Seahawks chose to keep seven wide receivers -- a group which includes former UDFA Phil Bates. B.J. Daniels is a practice squad candidate.
Packers placed OLB Nate Palmer (knee) on injured reserve.
Palmer suffered a torn MCL in Green Bay's preseason finale. He made two starts on defense last year and was a key player on special teams. 24-year-old Palmer is signed through 2016.
Seahawks waived WR Bryan Walters.
Walters was a camp favorite, but fell victim to the numbers game. A fifth-year undrafted free agent, Walters has made eight career appearances, four of which came with the Seahawks last season. He'll search for special-teams work.
Packers placed NT Khyri Thornton (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Thornton would have been in the mix to help replace B.J. Raji, but suffered a major hamstring injury in Green Bay's preseason finale. A third-round pick, Thornton will push for playing time in 2015. Josh Boyd is expected to open the season as the Packers' starting nose tackle.
Packers waived RB LaDarius Perkins, C Garth Gerhart, DT Carlos Gray, RB Michael Hill, LB Adrian Hubbard, S Tanner Miller, TE Justin Perillo, DE Luther Robinson and OT Jeremy Vujnovich.
An undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State, Perkins rushed 31 times for 93 yards (3.0 YPC) this preseason, adding two catches for 21 yards and a score as a receiver. He's a candidate for the practice squad.
49ers coach Jim Harbuagh expects G/C Marcus Martin (knee) to miss six weeks.
It's a slight upgrade from his initial two-month timetable. Martin will avoid injured reserve, but likely won't return before Week 7.
