Tyler Saladino (ankle) is making "very good progress" and is close to beginning a rehab assignment, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Sunday.

Saladino has been out since late May with a sprained left ankle. "He is taking big steps every day now, so we’re closing in on looking at setting a date for sending him out to rehab," Counsell said.

Matt Albers (shoulder) is slated to resume a throwing program Tuesday.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Sunday that things are "going in the right direction" with Albers but the reliever isn't expected to be back before the All-Star break. He's missed the last couple weeks with a shoulder injury.

Mets recalled RHP Chris Flexen from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Flexen won't start Sunday's game against the Dodgers but figures to be leaned on heavily in what will be a "bullpen game." He holds an 8.05 ERA across 16 career major league appearances.

Mets placed LHP Jason Vargas on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with a strained calf.

Vargas hurt the calf during a conditioning drill on Saturday. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Chris Flexen has replaced him on the roster, although it will be Jerry Blevins starting a "bullpen game" Sunday.

Blue Jays pitching prospect Ryan Borucki will make his major league debut Tuesday in Houston.

Borucki, 24, holds a 3.27 ERA over 13 starts for Triple-A Buffalo this season, although he's struck out just 58 across 77 innings. It's obviously not an ideal setting for his major league debut and he should not be used in fantasy leagues.

Daniel Mengden has traveled back to Oakland to get his injured right foot examined.

Mengden was forced from Saturday's start with a sore foot. He has a history of foot issues but this injury isn't believed to be related to his previous problems. It's possible Mengden will be able to make his next start, but that hasn't been determined yet.

Matt Chapman (hand) will have another checkup with Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles on Monday and could be given another cortisone shot.

Chapman won't be ready to return for the A's series in Detroit that begins Monday, but the hope is that he will return during their homestand which starts on Friday. He's been sidelined for the last week with soreness in the top of his right hand.
Jun 24 - 12:36 PM

Joe Smith (elbow) threw a bullpen session Sunday.

It's his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the disabled list two and a half weeks ago with a sore right elbow. Smith should be ready to face hitters soon.
