Jharel Cotton was removed from Friday's start against the White Sox with an apparent injury.

Before departing, the team's trainer appeared to be looking at Cotton's hand at either a blister or a fingernail issue. He had been enjoying one of his better starts of the season, allowing just three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings. Look for an update on his status shortly.

Giancarlo Stanton clubbed his 19th home run of the season on Friday, powering the Marlins to a 2-0 victory over the Cubs.

Stanton tagged Cubs' starter John Lackey for the mammoth solo shot in the third inning, providing all of the offense that Jose Urena and company would need in this one. Stanton also doubled and walked in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-3. He's enjoying a terrific season offensively, slashing .280/.360/.552 with 19 homers, 48 RBI and one stolen base.

Dee Gordon went 1-for-4 with a run scored and swiped his 28th base of the season as the Marlins dispatched of the Cubs on Friday night.

Gordon made things happen with his legs in the sixth inning. He reached on an infield single, stole second base and advanced to third when the cather's throw sailed into center field. He then scampered home on a sacrifice fly, providing a valuable insurance run. For the season, the speedy second baseman is hitting .292/.340/.358 with no homers, 17 RBI and the aforementioned 28 swipes.

A.J. Ramos worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Cubs on Friday, protecting a two-run advantage to earn his 11th save of the season.

Ramos surrendered a one-out single to Javier Baez but erased him by getting Albert Almora to ground into a game-ending double play. He has been inconsistent this season, compiling a 3.81 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 36/15 K/BB ratio across 26 innings.

Jose Urena was outstanding in Friday's victory over the Cubs, scattering five hits over six shutout innings.

The right-hander walked three and struck out three on the night. He has been great through 14 starts for the Fish, compiling a 6-2 record, 3.33 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 44/27 K/BB ratio across 70 1/3 innings. He'll look to replicate this fine performance when he does battle against the Mets on Thursday.

Javier Baez went 2-for-4 as the Cubs were shut out at the hand of the Marlins on Friday.

As a club, the Cubs tallied just six hits in this one, with Baez and Ian Happ each netting two. The dynamic young infielder is now slashing .259/.295/.472 with 10 homers, 29 RBI and two stolen bases on the season.

John Lackey logged a quality start in Friday's loss to the Marlins, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits over six strong innings.

The crafty right-hander struck out four and walked two in the ballgame. He gave up a solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton in the third inning and allowed the Marlins to scratch out an unearned run in the sixth. After two straight terrific outings, Lackey will carry a 4.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into Wednesday's start against the Nationals in Washington.

Dodgers recalled RHP Ross Stripling from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Stripling was just sent down to Triple-A but can return due to the injury suffered by Chris Hatcher. He'll continue to work in middle relief.
