Tyson Ross was handed a no-decision Thursday after allowing three runs over six innings against the Cardinals.

Ross collected his first career home run in the no-decision. He struggled with his control once again, walking five batters while throwing 69 out of 115 pitches for strikes. Ross has now walked five batters in three out of his last four starts. While he has struck out 111 batters in 102 1/3 innings this season, he's averaging 4.69 BB/9. He has been a source of frustration for fantasy owners during the first half.

Tim Cooney allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings in a no-decision against the Padres.

Cooney allowed four hits (including two home runs) and walked two while striking out six. He kept the Cardinals in the game, which is exactly what they were asking for. Jaime Garcia (groin) is only expected to miss one start, so Cooney will likely be sent right back down to Triple-A.

Yangervis Solarte was ejected from Thursday's game in the sixth inning for arguing a check-swing call.

Solarte went 1-for-3 with a solo homer before home plate umpire Bob Davidson gave him the boot. His solo shot in the second inning snapped a 22-inning scoreless streak for San Diego.

Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, two walks, and two runs scored Thursday against the Padres.

It was his first multi-hit game since June 18. Carpenter has seen his batting average fall 100 points from .378 to .278 since May 1.

Rays acquired RHP Garrett Fulenchek from the Braves for international bonus slots 73 and 103.

The 19-year-old right-hander was the Braves second round selection from the 2014 draft. He has yet to appear above Rookie ball and owns a career 4.65 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 32/26 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings.

Kyle Gibson spun eight scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over the Royals on Thursday.

Gibson had runners on first and second with one out in the eighth inning, but struck out Lorenzo Cain swinging and got Eric Hosmer to ground out to wiggle out of the jam. It was the exclamation point on a terrific outing for the young right-hander, who allowed a total of four hits and four walks while striking out seven. He has fanned 54 batters in 64 1/3 innings over his last 10 starts, which is really encouraging. He'll bring a 3.04 ERA into a start against the Orioles next week.
Jul 2 - 11:38 PM

Chris Young gave up one run over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.

His only blemish was an RBI triple from Danny Santana in the fifth inning, but it was enough to put him on the losing side. Young gave up a total of six hits while walking one and striking out a pair. After being hammered for seven runs against the Red Sox on June 21, the veteran right-hander has turned in back-to-back solid starts. He'll bring a 2.64 ERA into a start against the Rays next week.
Jul 2 - 11:38 PM

Glen Perkins tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning Thursday against the Royals for his 26th save of the season.

Perkins struck out one batter and needed just 11 pitches to get through the inning. He's now a perfect 26-for-26 in save chances this season to go along with a 1.35 ERA and 30/5 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings.
