Phillies placed OF Odubel Herrera on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with a left hamstring strain.

Herrera hasn't played since suffering a strained hamstring on Monday and the club couldn't afford to go another day with a short-handed bench. Herrera shouldn't need more than a minimum stint on the disabled list.

Michael Fulmer has been moved up in the Tigers' rotation and will start on Saturday against the Dodgers.

That will give Matt Boyd a few extra days of rest, with Justin Verlander moving up to pitch in Sunday's series finale. Fulmer struggled in his first start back with the Tigers, allowing five runs over five innings in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

Drew Pomeranz left Friday's start against the Yankees due to back spasms.

Pomeranz was forced to exit after tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings. It doesn't sound overly serious, but more should be known about the status for his next start in a couple of days.

Nationals placed RHP Max Scherzer on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 15, with left neck inflammation.

The Nationals are hopeful that he's only going to miss just one additional start, but will obviously play things very cautiously with their star right-hander. Matt Grace is starting in his place against the Padres on Friday.

Drew Pomeranz was forced to leave Friday's start against the Yankees in the fourth inning due to an apparent injury.

It's unclear exactly what occurred, but it appeared to be some sort of leg issue that forced Pomeranz from the game. Prior to departing, he had scattered four hits and struck out four over 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Look for the Red Sox to provide an update on his status shortly.

Max Scherzer was scratched from Friday's start against the Padres due to neck soreness.

Nationals' manager Dusty Baker said it's the opposite side of the neck that is bothering Scherzer, not the same side that gave him trouble earlier this season. Matt Grace will start in his place in what looks to be a bullpen day for the Nationals.

Mark Melancon admitted Friday that he has been contemplating surgery.

The right-hander claims that the ligament in his elbow is fine, but the surgery would correct a separate issue that has bothered him off and on since the 2012 season. Melancon has continued to have conversations with the Giants' training staff regarding the proper course of action and Giants' manage Bruce Bochy said he wouldn't put Melancon on the mound if it meant risking further injury. It doesn't sound like he's going to have much fantasy value over the final six weeks of the season.

J.D. Martinez was scratched from the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Friday due to illness.

It doesn't sound like anything too serious, so consider the hard-hitting outfielder day-to-day. Brandon Drury replaced him in the lineup and will bat seventh for the D'Backs against Ervin Santana and the Twins.
