Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Wednesday that Matt Adams could need surgery on his right quad.

Adams strained the quad Tuesday while legging out a double and the Cardinals are still determining whether it's a Grade 2 or Grade 3 variety. Grade 3 is the most severe and would almost certainly require a surgical procedure. Either way, Adams is looking at a long absence. Mark Reynolds will serve as the Cardinals' primary first baseman.

Braves acquired 3B Juan Uribe and RHP Chris Withrow from the Dodgers for INF Alberto Callaspo, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Ian Thomas, and RHP Juan Jaime.

Uribe's decline has accelerated in his age-36 season and he's doubtful to take on significant fantasy relevance with a change of scenery. The veteran had hit just .247/.287/.309 with one home run and six RBI in 29 games for the Dodgers. Getting him out of Los Angeles allows Alex Guerrero to become an everyday player.

Braves acquired RHP Chris Withrow and 3B Juan Uribe from the Dodgers for INF Alberto Callaspo, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Ian Thomas, and RHP Juan Jaime.

Withrow underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last June and probably won't become an option for the Braves' bullpen until after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old right-hander had posted a promising 2.73 ERA, 1.089 WHIP, and 71 strikeouts in 56 innings before tearing his right ulnar collateral ligament. He could be a nice find for Atlanta if he makes a full recovery.

Dodgers acquired INF Alberto Callaspo, LHP Eric Stults, LHP Ian Thomas, and RHP Juan Jaime from the Braves for 3B Juan Uribe and RHP Chris Withrow.

Callaspo initially rejected this trade, but he was paid a stipend to accept it a few hours after that decision. The 32-year-old infielder owns a rough .265/.328/.366 batting line in over 1,000 career major league games. He doesn't project to play very often in Los Angeles.
May 27 - 4:53 PM

Santiago Casilla worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to grab his 14th save as the Giants beat the Brewers 3-1 on Wednesday.

Casilla got consecutive strikeouts of Ryan Braun and Adam Lind before getting Aramis Ramirez to fly out to end the game. The right-hander hasn't been scored upon in May. He's 14-for-16 in save opportunities with a 1.31 ERA and a 21/7 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings.
May 27 - 4:52 PM

Ryan Vogelsong yielded only one run in six innings of work to earn the win in Wednesday's start versus the Brewers.

Vogelsong fell behind 1-0 on a fourth-inning RBI single from Elian Herrera but the Giants were able to scratch out enough runs to support him. He allowed six hits, walked none, and struck out five in the effort. Vogelsong has been stellar in five May starts, allowing only four earned runs in 31 2/3 innings. On the year, though, he has a 4.24 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, and a 38/20 K/BB ratio in 51 innings. Vogelsong will try to bring the success into June in his next start at home against the Pirates.
May 27 - 4:50 PM

Dodgers acquired LHP Eric Stults, INF Alberto Callaspo, LHP Ian Thomas, and RHP Juan Jaime from the Braves for 3B Juan Uribe and RHP Chris Withrow.

Stults was immediately designated for assignment by the Dodgers, so he's open to claims from other teams. The 35-year-old southpaw had registered an ugly 5.85 ERA in 47 2/3 innings this season for the Braves. He began his major league career with the Dodgers back in 2006. Los Angeles picked him in the 15th round in 2002.
May 27 - 4:50 PM

Mike Fiers allowed two runs in five innings, taking the loss on Wednesday versus the Giants.

Fiers made one mistake, resulting in a two-run home run to Joe Panik in the fifth inning. It was one of eight hits the right-hander allowed on the afternoon while walking none and striking out six. Fiers is now 1-5 with a 4.53 ERA, a 1.55 WHIP, and a 63/17 K/BB ratio in 51 2/3 innings. He'll match up against the Cardinals in St. Louis in his next start.
