Jason Hammel's next scheduled start has been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday.

Hammel has been dealing with a fingernail issue on his pitching hand, and although it doesn't seem like a big deal, the Cubs are using the opportunity to give him an extra day of rest. He's flip-flopping spots with Tsuyoshi Wada, who moves up from Sunday to Saturday.

Devon Travis (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

He'll stay with Buffalo through the weekend before being activated on Monday, the first day he's eligible, if all goes well. Travis has been on the shelf since May 17 with inflammation in his left shoulder.

Alex Rios (hand) will be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

He had been slated for a return on Friday, but the Royals have decided to give him one more day. Rios has been on the shelf since mid-April with a fracture in his left hand. Paulo Orlando is getting another start in right field Friday but is expected to be sent down when Rios is activated.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Johnny Cueto "is at least on (the Astros') radar."

It's possible they could ultimately shoot a little lower (Heyman says that they're also considering Aaron Harang), but it sounds like there's a good chance the Astros will add a starter before the deadline. One executive noted that potential trade talks between the Astros and Reds could get interesting given the icy relationship Houston general manager Jeff Luhnow and Cincinnati GM Walt Jocketty had when together in St. Louis. Cueto is currently dealing with an elbow issue, but he was cleared of structural damage and is expected to rejoin the rotation Sunday.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Aaron Harang "has at least been discussed by the Astros."

It's unclear at this point whether they deemed him a fit or not, but the common feeling is that the Astros will look to add an arm to their rotation. Harang, 37, has experienced a career renaissance, putting up a 1.93 ERA across 10 starts for the Phillies this season.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that "there's said to be a bit of a market" for Alejandro De Aza.

De Aza was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday after batting .214/.277/.359 over 30 games. He's making $5 million this season, so the O's would likely have to eat some of the contract to move him in a trade. Heyman says that the Angels are not among the clubs interested in De Aza.
May 29 - 12:10 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Cody Ross is receiving interest from clubs looking to sign him to a minor league contract.

It sounds like Ross isn't ready to jump at any of the offers, though, preferring to hold out for an ideal situation. The 34-year-old was released by the A's earlier this month after notching just two hits in 22 at-bats.

Phillies recalled 3B/OF Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Asche batted .295/.358/.393 with one homer over 15 games for Lehigh Valley while making the conversion from third base to left field. The Phillies will make a corresponding move prior to Friday's game.
