Josh Reddick (back) remained out of the Athletics' lineup Sunday.
It's a second straight game that he's missed due to a sore back. Reddick is considered day-to-day. Jake Smolinski is in right field Sunday.
Aaron Barrett will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday after fracturing his right elbow while in the midst of a rehab from Tommy John surgery.
Brutal. Barrett will undergo surgery and figures to be out of commission well into 2017 now.
Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) will do some running on Sunday.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Sunday that Cain is getting close to beginning a rehab assignment. He's been on the shelf for nearly a month with a strained left hamstring but doesn't appear to be too far off from a return.
Rangers signed LHP Craig Breslow to a minor league contract.
Breslow struggled for the Marlins both in the majors and at Triple-A before being released earlier this month. He'll turn 36 next month but the Rangers will take a no-risk shot on him.
Athletics optioned INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Nashville.
He's clearly out to accommodate the arrival of Sunday's starter, Jesse Hahn. Alcantara has three hits in 13 at-bats in his brief time with the big club this season.
Athletics recalled RHP Jesse Hahn from Triple-A Nashville.
Hahn will make a spot start against the Rays on Sunday. He could be sent down right after the outing, depending on whether the A's think Rich Hill (blister) will be ready for his next turn. Hahn holds an ugly 6.49 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in seven starts with the A's this season.
Salvador Perez is not in the Royals' lineup Sunday.
He's just getting a breather. Drew Butera is catching.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals "are trailing at least three other teams" in the pursuit of Aroldis Chapman.
It's a notable change, as they had been viewed as the favorite. It was Heyman who previously reported that the Yankees wanted Joe Ross but the Nats weren't willing to part with him, so perhaps that could be a deal killer between the two teams. Heyman backs up FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal's previous report about the Cubs possibly jumping into the lead for Chapman, as he says they're "pushing hard" for the reliever. The Indians and Giants are in on Chapman, as well, although Alex Pavlovic of CSNBayArea.com hears that the Giants "aren't in the final mix" for the reliever.
