Blue Jays manager John Gibbons confirmed Thursday that Sean Nolin will start Friday against the Orioles.

Nolin, a sixth-round pick in 2010, has posted a 1.17 ERA and 16/5 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings (three starts) this season at the Triple-A level. But the 23-year-old left-hander isn't really regarded as a top prospect and should be ignored in most standard fantasy leagues.
May 23 - 3:50 PM

Phillies recalled RHP Michael Stutes from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Stutes has a 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25/11 K/BB ratio in 27 innings this season at the Triple-A level. The right-hander should do fine in a middle relief role for Philly.
May 23 - 3:37 PM

Michael Pineda (shoulder) threw five innings Thursday in a start at extended spring training.

Pineda's fastball sat near 93 mph all afternoon and he reported no issues with his surgically-repaired shoulder. The right-hander is expected to make one more start at the Yankees' spring complex before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. He should be stashed right now in leagues with big roster allotments.
May 23 - 3:34 PM

Carlos Zambrano allowed one (unearned) run over four innings Thursday at extended spring training.

Zambrano was also good in his first extended spring training start last week, striking out five batters over two scoreless innings. He yielded four hits and a walk on Thursday while fanning four. The right-hander could be an option for the Phils sooner than expected.
May 23 - 3:31 PM

Indians recalled LHP Scott Barnes from Triple-A Columbus.

Barnes has an ugly 5.74 ERA and 19/8 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. The left-hander will serve as a middle reliever for the Indians.
May 23 - 3:13 PM

Indians designated LHP David Huff for assignment.

Huff allowed five earned runs in three innings during his short stay on the Indians' major league roster. The 28-year-old lefty may draw interest from other teams.
May 23 - 3:11 PM

Shane Victorino (hamstring) is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Thursday night against the Indians.

Victorino has missed the last three games with left hamstring tightness, but he is still expected to avoid the disabled list. The hope is he'll be ready on Friday.

Ike Davis - 1B - Mets

A source told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News that the Mets could demote Ike Davis after this weekend's three-game series against the Braves.

The Mets have been answering questions about a Davis demotion for weeks and may have finally reached the breaking point. The 26-year-old first baseman went 0-for-2 on Wednesday and is batting just .147 with a .482 OPS and 49 strikeouts through his first 42 games this season. He has one hit in his last 38 plate appearances.
