Rays manager Joe Maddon said Friday that despite his recent struggles, he didn't anticipate any discussion about dropping Roberto Hernandez from the rotation.

After Friday's disaster, Hernandez owns a horrifying 5.73 ERA and 1.37 WHIP on the season. With Chris Archer pitching well at Triple-A, and Jake Odorizzi already in the rotation, if Hernandez continues to struggle he could get booted from the rotation once David Price is able to return. He shouldn't be trusted in any fantasy format at this point.

Jeff Karstens (shoulder) will be re-evaluated next week after having his throwing program shut down on Friday due to pain in his right shoulder.

Karstens had been expected to return to the Pirates' rotation in early June, but now that timetable will certainly be pushed back. He has dealt with discomfort in his shoulder since early in the spring.

Chris Iannetta homered for the second consecutive game, helping to lead the Angels to a 5-2 victory over the Royals on Friday.

Iannetta finished the night 1-for-3 plus a walk. His sixth inning blast off Luke Hochevar tied the score at 2-2 and the Angels would never look back. While he's hitting just .205 on the season, he sports a terrific .366 OBP while blasting five homers and driving home 15 runs. He remains a decent option in deeper two-catcher formats.

Garrett Richards earned the second save of his major league career on Friday, recording the final five outs to preserve a three-run victory over the Royals.

With Ernesto Frieri likely unavailable, Angels skipper Mike Scioscia opted to leave Richards in to close it out, and he responded very favorably. In his 1 2/3 innings of work, he surrendered just one hit and picked up a pair of strikeouts. He's still unlikely to become relevant in fantasy leagues unless he's moved back to the rotation.

Jason Vargas pitched well in Friday’s victory over the Royals, allowing just two runs on five hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Vargas also walked four on the night while punching out a pair. Miguel Tejada tagged him for a solo homer in the second inning, and Chris Getz added an RBI single in the fifth, but that was the extent of the damage. He’s been one of the lone bright spots in the Halo’s rotation this season, posting a 4-3 record, 3.43 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. He’ll go in search of his third consecutive win when he takes on the Dodgers at home on Wednesday.

Miguel Tejada smacked his second home run of the season in a losing effort against the Angels on Friday.

He finished the night 1-for-3. Surprisingly, Tejada has actually been a fairly useful plater in his limited at-bats, hitting .333/.375/.567 with a pair of homers and seven RBI in his first 32 at-bats. The 39-year old could even be fantasy relevant if he found his way into everyday at-bats.

Luis Mendoza delivered a strong outing in a no-decision against the Angels on Friday, allowing just one run on seven hits over his five frames.

Mendoza struggled with his command a bit, issuing four free passes while striking out two on the night. The only run against him came when Mike Trout scampered home on a wild pitch in the third inning. After a very rough start to the season, Mendoza has posted a 3.52 ERA over his last four outings. He’ll look to get back in the win column when he squares off against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Wednesday.

Marco Estrada tossed seven innings of one-run ball Friday in a 2-1 win over the Pirates.

It was his best start of the season. Estrada held the Pirates to just four hits while walking none and striking out a season-high eight batters. The only run scored on a double by Neil Walker in his final inning of work. Estrada has been inconsistent this season, but he's well worth a look if he's sitting on the waiver wire. He has a promising matchup against the Twins next week.
