Sam Fuld - OF - Twins

Twins claimed OF Sam Fuld off waivers from the Athletics.

It's a good fit, as the Twins could really use some outfield help. With Aaron Hicks sporting an ugly .179/.299/.214 batting line, Fuld could wind up with a good amount of playing time in center field. He's only a career .233/.312/.334 hitter over parts of seven big league seasons but offers a good outfield glove.

Clayton Kershaw (back) said following a 50-pitch simulated game Sunday that he assumes a rehab start is his next step.

Kershaw went three innings Sunday and was throwing at full intensity. The Dodgers have yet to officially announce when the left-hander will begin a rehab assignment, but it certainly sounds like later this week is a reasonable expectation. He'll need at least a couple outings, with a mid-May return to the Dodgers' rotation being the goal.

Blake Beavan (shoulder) could begin playing catch later this week.

Beavan was diagnosed last week with a shoulder impingement after having to leave an outing. There's no timetable for his return. "A lot of times, it’s the bursa in your shoulder," Seattle trainer Rick Griffin explained. "It becomes inflamed. When that becomes inflamed, there isn’t enough room for your shoulder to move around normally. So it pinches. When you throw the baseball, especially when you follow through, you get a pinching sensation in their shoulder. So you have to get the inflammation quieted down."

James Paxton (lat) could begin playing catch by the end of this week.

"Paxton has started to do a lot of exercises in the swimming pool," Mariners trainer Rick Griffin said. "He’s doing exercises specifically for his (latissimus dorsi) strain. We’re working all of the muscles along his shoulder joint." The left-hander will be examined mid-week, at which point the M's hope he can begin some light throwing.

Taijuan Walker (shoulder) could begin playing catch by the end of this week.

Walker is tentatively scheduled to be examined by Dr. Edward Khalfaya on Wednesday and could gain clearance at that time to resume throwing. The righty was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement after he had to be scratched from his last rehab outing when he couldn't get loose. Walker's stamina is already built up enough to rejoin the M's rotation, so it's all about how he feels at this point.
