Bruce Bochy told reporters that Alen Hanson is "fine" after undergoing x-rays on his left knee.

Hanson was removed in the bottom of first after fouling a ball of of his knee, and was diagnosed with a contusion. It sounds like the x-rays came back negative, but Bochy also told reporters that Hanson is likely to be sore on Thursday, so there's a chance he'll be out of the lineup for precautionary reasons. Consider Hanson day-to-day for now.

Frankie Montas gave up five hits and one run over 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in the Athletics’ win over the Padres.

He logged six strikeouts and three walks in the victory. This was much better than his previous outing when Montas let up seven runs (five earned) in a loss to Houston. The only run he allowed came when A.J. Ellis scored from second base on Cory Spangenberg’s RBI single in the third inning. The right-hander has won four of five starts for the A’s while logging an elite 2.41 ERA. He’ll look to continue his success Monday at Detroit.

Franklin Barreto went 2-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored Wednesday in the Athletics’ 12-4 win over San Diego.

Barreto put the A’s ahead on a three-run blast in the second inning. That was his first home run in the big leagues since July 4 of last year. Barreto also reached on an infield single in the third and scored later in the frame on a sac fly by Josh Phegley. The 22-year-old is MLB.com’s No. 56 prospect and third in Oakland’s farm system behind only A.J. Puk (27th) and Jesus Luzardo (31st).

Mark Canha left the yard for his ninth homer Wednesday in the Athletics’ win over San Diego.

Canha’s round-tripper—a third-inning solo shot off left-hander Robbie Erlin—was one of five long balls hit by Oakland in Wednesday’s 12-4 rout. He was hitless with two strikeouts in his other four at-bats. Canha has now homered in two of his last three games. The 29-year-old will have a big day now and then, but he’s not someone fantasy owners can count on at this juncture.

Dodgers optioned C/INF Kyle Farmer to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The move was made after the Dodgers' loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. It's believed that this will clear room for Chase Utley, who expected to be activated from the disabled list on Friday. In 63 at-bats for the Dodgers this year, Farmer has a .611 OPS with no homers and eight RBI.

Jed Lowrie launched his 11th homer Wednesday in the Athletics’ victory over the Padres.

Lowrie singled and scored in the seventh, then capped his afternoon with a two-run shot off Phil Hughes in the eighth inning. The 34-year-old has cooled off since his hot start, but is still slashing a respectable .285/.344/.476 for the year. He’s on pace for 103 RBI, which would easily surpass his career-high of 75 set in 2013.
Jun 20 - 7:02 PM

Joey Lucchesi surrendered three hits and four runs in just 1 2/3 innings Wednesday in the Padres’ loss to the A’s.

Lucchesi walked two and struck out three while throwing 30 of his 51 pitches for strikes. The left-hander looked rusty in his return from the disabled list, allowing home runs to Franklin Barrero (a three-run shot) and Josh Phegley. Even with Wednesday’s clunker, the rookie’s ERA still sits at a respectable 3.86. He’ll look to lower that in his next outing Monday at Texas.
Jun 20 - 7:01 PM

Christian Villanueva socked his 16th home run Wednesday in San Diego’s loss to the Athletics.

It came in the ninth with the Padres trailing 12-1. He also contributed an infield single in the fourth inning. Villanueva’s round-tripper—a solo shot off Josh Lucas—was his first since May 31. That snapped a 13-game homerless drought for the 27-year-old.
