Mike Moustakas (thumb) was scratched from Friday's lineup.

Moustakas returned to action from a bruised thumb on Wednesday, but the thumb is apparently still bothering him. Consider him day-to-day. Christian Colon had been expected to start at second base, but he's now shifted over to third and Omar Infante has entered the lineup at second.

Yasmany Tomas is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Friday.

It's a simple day off. Brandon Drury is in left field in Tomas' place.
May 6 - 4:13 PM

Will Smith said Friday that he doesn't expect to need surgery to repair a torn LCL in his right knee.

Smith was shut down for six weeks to see how the knee responded, and he's evidently feeling good. There remains no timetable for his return, but it sounds as if he'll pitch this season. Jeremy Jeffress has converted all seven of his save chances and is a good bet to remain in the closer role even after Smith returns, whenever that will be.
May 6 - 4:11 PM

Tyler White is absent from Friday's lineup.

White is in the midst of a 3-for-40 skid that has his batting line down to .222/.287/.444. Marwin Gonzalez is at first base Friday.
May 6 - 4:08 PM

J.D. Martinez is not in the Tigers' lineup Friday.

Martinez has just three hits in his last 26 at-bats, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Mike Aviles is in right field and batting second on Friday.
May 6 - 4:05 PM

Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) could potentially return from the disabled list when first eligible on May 19.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that an MRI revealed a "one-plus" grade right hamstring strain for A-Rod, so it was good news all things considered. The club figures to have a better idea by next week whether Rodriguez returning in mid-May is realistic.
May 6 - 4:01 PM

Ivan Nova will take CC Sabathia's (groin) spot in the Yankees' rotation.

Sabathia is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks. Nova has put up a 5.14 ERA over six relief appearances this season. He'll likely only be able to go about five innings in his first outing, but it shouldn't be a big deal getting him stretched out.
May 6 - 3:58 PM

Jimmy Rollins is not in the White Sox' lineup Friday.

It's a simple day off. Tyler Saladino is playing shortstop.
