Patriots released WR Nate Washington.

Washington was buried on the depth chart in New England and didn't even make it to final cuts. The 33-year-old (on Sunday) had some big games for the Texans last season on his way to a 48-661-4 line, but wasn't brought back and settled for a minimum deal with the Patriots. He should be able to land another look-see at some point this season once injuries hit other teams.

Coach Dirk Koetter praised Austin Seferian-Jenkins' work ethic over the past couple weeks.

After opening camp as the clear No. 2 to Cameron Brate, ASJ has gained the ground back and is splitting first-team reps with Brate. "Austin's worked his way right back in there," Koetter said. "And when he got moved down the depth chart all you can ask a player when he gets moved down is that he competes and does better and tries to get back up there and he's done that." It was a motivational tactic by Koetter, and it's paid off. ASJ is a high-upside late-round flier.

Patriots waived C Bryan Stork.

Stork was a fourth-round pick in 2014 and started 13 games for the Patriots that season, including the Super Bowl win. He made another seven starts last season but missed the first eight weeks of the season with a concussion. Stork has a lengthy history of concussions, and missed a few days of practice earlier this month with one. David Andrews is now expected to be the Pats' center.

Packers DL Letroy Guion is expected to shift back to nose tackle this season.

Guion manned the nose for the Packers in 2014 when B.J. Raji missed the entire season due to injury. With Raji back last year, Guion kicked back to 3-4 end but was unable to find as much success. Raji retired this past offseason, leaving nose duties to Guion. He set career-highs in tackles and sacks in 2014.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette expects Eli Rogers to open the season as the Steelers' No. 3 receiver.

Bouchette calls Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey "backups" behind Rogers, Markus Wheaton, and Antonio Brown. It's possible Bouchette's mind could change after Pittsburgh's third preseason game, where Ben Roethlisberger will see his first action this August. At this moment, however, Rogers is in the driver's seat to start in the slot in Week 1, with Wheaton moving outside.

Coach Sean Payton called out second-year KR/RB Marcus Murphy for his fumbling issues.

In June, Murphy said he hoped to earn an offensive role this season, but he's closer to being cut than playing snaps with Drew Brees. Murphy's fumbles have been evident in practice, and he's also put the ball on the ground twice through two preseason games. Murphy will never be an offensive weapon.

According to Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official website, Jared Cook has "developed a rapport" with Aaron Rodgers the past two weeks.

Cook was activated from the PUP list two weeks ago from today, and in his first practice with the team, he and Rodgers hooked up for numerous touchdowns in team drills. Hodkiewicz also reports Cook has "caught everything" in practice. Cook has a good chance to set or come close to career-best marks in Green Bay, especially with touchdowns. His current career-high is five.

Thomas Rawls (ankle) won't play in Thursday's preseason game.

Missing Seattle's regular season dress rehearsal is far from ideal, but also entirely expected. Rawls is still locked in as the Seahawks' primary early-down banger, but is facing serious heat from a resurgent Christine Michael. Rawls needs to be on his game from Week 1, something that will be a challenge after barely practicing this offseason.
