Wilmer Flores (hamstring) will not be activated from the disabled list on Friday.
The Mets have decided to extend Flores' rehab assignment a bit longer, but he could still conceivably return sometime over the weekend. Flores is slated to take over at first base for the Mets with Lucas Duda (back) on the shelf.
Angels sent LHP Lucas Luetge outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. Luetge didn't make an appearance in his brief time with the Angels.
Carlos Carrasco (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Saturday.
Carrasco has been throwing off a mound for two weeks and hasn't had any issues with his strained hamstring. The right-hander figures to need a couple rehab outings before rejoining the Indians' rotation early next month.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves will designate Reid Brignac for assignment.
It's unclear what the corresponding move will be. Brignac had his contract purchased earlier this month but has batted just .207/.207/.276 across 29 plate appearances.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks are expected to place Shelby Miller (finger) on the disabled list Friday.
Manager Chip Hale revealed Thursday that Miller is still dealing with discomfort in a finger on his right hand as a result of an injury last month. It's fair to question whether Miller is truly hurt or whether the D'Backs just want to give the struggling righty some time off, but either way he's not going to start for them for a while. Archie Bradley will replace Miller in the rotation.
Will Smith (knee) is expected to make back-to-back appearances with Triple-A Colorado Springs before being activated from the disabled list.
He's already made two scoreless appearances for High-A Brevard County, striking out four over three innings. It's looking like Smith could be activated early next week if he can get a couple games under his belt over the weekend. Working his way back from an LCL tear in his right knee, Smith isn't a bad roster stash for those mining for saves.
Anthony Rizzo is absent from the Cubs' lineup Friday.
Rizzo has just three hits in his last 38 at-bats, so it's probably a good time to get him a breather with a lefty (Adam Morgan) on the mound. Jason Heyward is also receiving a day off, as the Cubs have Kris Bryant at first base, Javier Baez at third base and Matt Szczur in right field.
Phillies pitching prospect Mark Appel has been placed on Triple-A Lehigh Valley's disabled list with a right shoulder strain.
Appel's velocity had been down of late, and now we know why. The former No. 1 overall pick posted a 1.64 ERA in April for Lehigh Valley but an 8.27 ERA in May, so the shoulder could have been bothering him for a few starts.
