Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Jeremy Jeffress is expected to sign a minor league deal with the Brewers.

Passan says Jeffress was spotted at the Brewers' spring training complex. Jeffress is a former first-round pick of the Brewers and cracked the majors with them before being sent to the Royals as part of the Zack Greinke deal.

Athletics signed LHP Sean Doolittle to a four-year contract extension.

The deal was announced as a five-year contract, but it includes this season. The A's will also have club options for 2019 and 2020. The financials of the contract are not yet known. Doolittle would have been eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter, so the new deal will buy out his arbitration years and possibly his first two years of free agency. Doolittle holds a 3.10 ERA with 129 strikeouts over 125 innings over his first 122 relief appearances for the A's.

Giants prospect OF Mac Williamson was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three runs on Thursday for High-A San Jose.

The home runs was Williamson's first of the season, and he's now batting .235/.371/.737 with five extra-base hits, four steals and a 9/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 15 games. The 23-year-old outfielder spent all of 2013 at San Jose and put up big numbers (albeit as an older player in the hitter-friendly California League), batting .292/.375/.504 with 31 doubles, 25 home runs, 10 stolen bases and 132/51 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 136 games. Williamson's power profiles nicely as a big-league corner outfielder, but there's doubt as to whether his bat will develop enough to get there.

Will Middlebrooks (calf) will begin a rehab assignment in the middle of next week.

He had been in line to begin one over the weekend, but he's been set back a few days due to the flu. Barring any more setbacks, Middlebrooks should still be ready for activation before the end of the month.

Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) is not in the Rockies' lineup Friday.

Cuddyer expected to miss at least one game after leaving Thursday's contest with a left hamstring cramp. He should be back in there over the weekend. Charlie Blackmon is in right field Friday, with Drew Stubbs in center.
Apr 18 - 4:28 PM

David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

It's just a routine day of rest. Mike Napoli is in the DH spot Friday, with Mike Carp handling first base.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Friday that Nick Martinez is likely to be recalled to start on Tuesday in place of the injured Tanner Scheppers (elbow).

Martinez held his own in his major league debut earlier this month, allowing three runs over six frames against the Rays. He could be needed for more than one start, depending on when the Rangers bring Matt Harrison (back) back from the DL.
Apr 18 - 4:23 PM

Rangers designated INF Andy Parrino for assignment.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Aaron Poreda. Parrino will have the option of becoming a free agent if he clears waivers.
