Jake Marisnick was scratched from the Astros starting lineup on Friday due to right leg discomfort.
Marisnick will also sit out on Saturday as a precautionary measure. The young outfielder felt something while running the bases in Wednesday's contest. Robbie Grossman is getting the start in his place on Friday and batting ninth against the Athletics.
Dodgers sent RHP Daniel Corcino outright to Double-A Tulsa.
Corcino was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the 40-man roster for Xavier Cedeno, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain as organizational depth for the Dodgers.
Josh Johnson (elbow) threw a successful 40-pitch bullpen session on Friday.
Johnson was able to use all of his pitches and reported feeling good afterwards. He'll repeat the process on Monday or Tuesday, and if all goes well could then be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment.
Dodgers purchased the contract of RHP Sergio Santos from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Santos joined the team in San Diego on Friday and is in uniform for their series-opener against the Padres. He had an opt-out clause in his contract if he wasn't on the big league roster before May 1 which he was expected to utilize. Santos will work in mddle relief for the Dodgers.
Dodgers designated LHP Xavier Cedeno for assignment.
The 28-year-old southpaw was just acquired by the Dodgers from the Nationals on Wednesday for cash considerations, but it appears as though they believe the roster spot could be better utilized with Sergio Santos. He could attract some interest on waivers.
Dodgers optioned RHP Mike Bolsinger to Triple-A Oklahoma City
Bolsinger pitched well in a spot start on Thursday, taking a no-decision after 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Giants. He could get the another opportunity the next time the Dodgers need a spot starter.
Sean Doolittle (shoulder) threw 15 pitches in a successful bullpen session on Friday.
Doolittle came away from the session feeling great and said the he's using the time to work on new grips for his changeup and slider. He'll continue to build up his strength before going out on a minor league rehab assignment, with a return to the A's bullpen not likely until mid-May.
A.J. Ellis admitted that his hand is still swollen, but he hopes to be available off the bench to either hit or catch on Friday.
Ellis was able to hit off a tee before the game without issue. Yasmani Grandal is once again getting the start behind the dish with the veteran on the shelf. Look for Ellis to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend.
