Logan Darnell pitched erratically in allowing four runs in four innings against the White Sox on Friday

Last time out, the White Sox knocked him for seven runs, so technically this four-run jaunt was an improvement. Darnell walked four, struck out four and allowed five hits. He has an 8.25 ERA. He is not on the fantasy radar.

Chris Sale gave up five runs over six innings of work in a no-decision against the Twins on Friday.

It's rare to see the White Sox ace get roughed up. Coming into Friday's start, he was on a roll of five consecutive starts in which he'd gone at least seven innings. He had only given up five earned runs over that stretch, a number he nearly matched on Friday (only four of the five runs on Sale's line were earned). Sale was victimized by extra-base hits, surrendering doubles to Kurt Suzuki, Kennys Vargas and Eduardo Escobar. Despite the subpar start, Sale holds a 2.09 ERA and a 10-1 record.

Lonnie Chisenhall hit his ten homer of the season on Friday against the Rangers.

In a game where the Indians had sixteen hits and put up twelve runs, Chisenhall's home run was somehow only one of three extra-base hits. It's nice to see the home run, as Chisenhall was ice cold in July, hitting just .209/.313/.256. On the whole, he's still slashing a respectable .309/.375/.479, which tells you just how spectacular those first three months of the season were.

Jeremy Guthrie allowed three hits over six innings Friday to notch the win as the Royals beat the A's 1-0.

Guthrie is thankful to have July over with: he went 1-3 with a 10.07 ERA in four starts last month. He's simply a spot starter in AL-only leagues right now, but he'll be a decent play next week in a road start against the Diamondbacks.

Sonny Gray took a tough loss after holding the Royals to one run and three hits in seven innings Friday.

As Oakland's baseball information manager Mike Selleck pointed out, the A's have been shut out just five times all season, but that four of those have come in Gray's starts. Those shutouts are responsible for three of his four losses.
Aug 2 - 12:42 AM

Raul Ibanez homered for the lone run of the game Friday as the Royals topped the Athletics.

Ibanez is going to be seeing a lot of time filling in for Eric Hosmer this month, though in something of a surprise, he was used as a DH with Billy Butler at first base tonight. The homer was Ibanez's fifth in 215 at-bats this season. He's 5-for-9 since July 23, raising his average from .155 to .177.

Carlos Santana went 1-for-3 with an RBI single against the Rangers on Friday.

Nothing spectacular here, but Santana just keeps on raking. After posting April and May averages of .157 and .169, he's hit .308 and .313 in June and July, respectively. His slash line for July was a gaudy .313/.407/.615. Congrats if you bought low on him back when he looked like the worst hitter on the planet. Or if you were patient/psychic and knew he'd be on fire come the dog days of August. Either way.
Aug 2 - 12:37 AM

Mike Aviles hit two singles and drove in three in Cleveland's win over the Rangers on Friday.

Aviles ended the night 2-for-4. He hit an RBI single in the fourth off of Texas starter Jerome Williams and followed it up with a two-run single in the fifth. The utility infielder is batting .261/.291/.339 on the season.
