Eric Hosmer went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Friday as the Royals topped the Athletics 6-4.

After dropping their first two games of the season against the Twins, the Royals got back to their winning ways on Friday. Hosmer plated the team's first run with an RBI single in the third inning and scored on a run-scoring knock by Alex Gordon. Hosmer is off to a terrific start in 2015, slashing .302/.340/.395 with a homer and nine RBI.

Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a walk-off RBI single in a 3-2 win over the Orioles on Friday night.

Mike Napoli led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk against Brian Matusz before Daniel Nava sacrificed him over to second and Bogaerts cashed him in with a bloop single to right field. It was his first career walk-off hit. Bogaerts, who also had a run scored on the night, now owns a healthy .395/.452/.474 batting line through nine games this season. The Red Sox are 7-3 on the year.

Joe Kelly allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Friday.

Kelly was dominant in his season debut against the Yankees last season, but he wasn't nearly as efficient this time around, as he threw 118 pitches and couldn't get out of the sixth inning. He allowed four hits (including a home run to Caleb Joseph) and two walks while striking out three batters. The velocity is there for Kelly -- he was still throwing in the mid-90s in his final frame -- but he hasn't found a way to parlay that into sustained success as a starter yet.

Ryan Hanigan launched a two-run homer against the Orioles on Friday.

Hanigan's blast, which was his first home run of the season, tied the game in the fifth inning. Boston went on to win in the bottom of the ninth. Hanigan is hitting just .136 (3-for-22) so far, but he has drawn seven walks, so his on-base percentage sits at .345. The Red Sox will take it, at least until top prospect Blake Swihart is deemed ready.

Mookie Betts went 0-for-3 with a walk Friday against the Orioles.

The 0-fer snapped a six-game hitting streak. Through nine games, Betts is batting just .209 with a .271 on-base percentage. That's not what fantasy owners were hoping for, but we wouldn't worry too much about the slow start just yet. The upside and tools are obvious.
Apr 17 - 11:03 PM

Caleb Joseph hit a solo home run and drew a walk Friday against the Red Sox.

It was far from a mammoth blast, as it traveled just 316 feet into the right field corner at Fenway Park. Shane Victorino made his best effort to catch the ball, but he came up empty-handed and the home run was held up on a replay review. Joseph is batting .370/.452/.630 through eight games, so the absence of Matt Wieters (elbow) hasn't hurt the Orioles too badly in the early going.
Apr 17 - 11:02 PM

Greg Holland worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Athletics on Friday, preserving a two-run advantage to earn his fourth save of the season.

Holland issued one walk in the inning and surprisingly didn't record a strike out. The dominant right-hander hasn't allowed a run yet in four innings this season and owns an exceptional 0.25 WHIP and 3/1 K/BB ratio.
Apr 17 - 11:01 PM

Jeremy Guthrie gave up four runs on seven hits over six-plus innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Friday.

Guthrie struck out a pair without issuing a walk in the ballgame. While he wasn't outstanding, he did enough to keep his team in the ballgame and eventually they were able to pull out a victory, which is all they ask from the innings-eater. He should continue to be avoided in mixed leagues despite Wednesday's juicy matchup against the Twins.
