Kyle Lohse pitched well enough to win, allowing four runs in 6 1/3 innings, as the Brewers beat the Phillies by a 9-5 margin on Wednesday.

Lohse was more impressive at the plate, as he singled three times and scored two runs in four at-bats. On the mound, he allowed nine hits and a pair of walks while striking out four. Against a more competent offense, the results wouldn't have been as good. Nevertheless, Lohse now has a 6.24 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and a 70/22 K/BB ratio over 98 innings. He'll face the Braves at home in his next start.

Dan Straily will start for the Astros against the Red Sox on Friday.

Straily owns a 4.06 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 70/14 K/BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings with Triple-A Fresno this year. The 26-year-old will replace Brett Oberholtzer in the Astros' rotation.

Chris Heston yielded three runs in six innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Heston left with a lead, but the bullpen couldn't make it stand. He struck out just one tonight, but 14 of his other 17 outs came on the ground. He's going to survive the returns of Jake Peavy and Matt Cain from the disabled list.
Jul 1 - 10:16 PM

Aaron Harang was torched in a loss on Wednesday, allowing eight runs in five innings versus the Brewers.

Harang gave up 14 hits, which included four doubles and a two-run Adam Lind home run. The right-hander had a great first two months of the season, but fell back to earth in June and it is continuing in July. Over his last six starts, Harang has an 8.55 ERA. Overall, he carries a 4.08 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and a 73/27 K/BB ratio in 106 innings. He'll try to rebound in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Santiago Casilla took his fourth blown save after giving up three runs without retiring a batter Wednesday against the Marlins.

Single, single, home run. Casilla's last two blown saves have been ugly, but since they're his only bad outings in two months, his job is plenty safe enough. The real concern is injury: he always seems to be good for one per year.
Jul 1 - 10:14 PM

Buster Posey passed a concussion test after Wednesday's game.

Posey left the game after taking a foul ball off his mask. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the catcher felt "off" and didn't want to risk further injury. He'll be re-evaluated again Thursday, but as of now it appears he dodged a huge bullet.
Jul 1 - 10:12 PM

Maikel Franco doubled three times, walked, and knocked in a pair of runs in five plate appearances in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers.

Franco hit RBI doubles in the seventh and ninth innings, but the Phillies' pitching staff put the game too far out of reach for the third baseman's effort to matter. Franco hasn't slowed down since his promotion in May, batting .305/.349/.557 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI.
Jul 1 - 10:11 PM

Gregor Blanco went 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Marlins on Wednesday.

Blanco has 14 hits during an eight-game hitting streak, pushing his average all of the way up to .314. He's been a savior for the Giants with two starting outfielders on the DL and the third, Angel Pagan, limited of late.
