Ryan Vogelsong had a rough go of things Thursday against the Giants, yielding four runs in two innings of work.

Vogelsong was four runs in debt in a flash, as he allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the second inning before walking Kris Bryant to load the bases. Kyle Schwarber unloaded them with a grand slam to right field. Vogelsong, 37, will likely serve as a swingman for the Giants. He finished with a 4.00 ERA and a 151/58 K/BB ratio in 184 2/3 innings last season.

Preliminary have determined that Hunter Pence has a fractured left forearm.

Mar 5 - 6:22 PM

Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-3 with a grand slam Thursday in a loss to the Giants.

The Cubs' first round pick in the 2014 draft, going fourth overall, is expected to start the season with High-A Myrtle Beach. Schwarber posted incredible numbers across three levels of A-ball last season, including a 1.061 OPS and 18 home runs in 311 plate appearances.
Mar 5 - 6:19 PM

Robinson Chirinos went 2-for-3 with an RBI, but the Rangers fell 5-4 to the Royals on Thursday.

Chirinos will be handling everyday catching duties for the Rangers this season with Carlos Corporan serving as his understudy while Jorge Alfaro waits in the wings. Though Chirinos left a bit to be desired in terms of hitting for average and drawing walks in 2014, the 30-year-old ripped 15 doubles and 13 home runs in 338 plate appearances.
Mar 5 - 6:15 PM

Mark Trumbo doubled and scored a run in Thursday's win over the Rockies.

Trumbo's two-bagger came in the second inning off of Jhoulys Chacin. The slugger's first season in the desert was a bust, as he was limited to just 88 games due to injury, batting .235/.293/.415 with 14 homers and 61 RBI. He remains a good fit for Chase Field, though, and is a nice bounce-back candidate for 2015.
Mar 5 - 6:15 PM

Joey Gallo went 1-for-3 and scored a run Thursday in a loss against the Royals.

Gallo, a non-roster invitee, is being given an opportunity to show his talents to the Rangers' major league coaching staff. He will not be breaking camp with the club, but he can improve his odds of a promotion with a good impression this spring.
Mar 5 - 6:12 PM

Ryan Rua went 1-for-2 with a triple and a pair of RBI in Thursday's loss to the Royals.

Rua tripled in the Rangers' second and third runs of the game in the third inning. The soon-to-be 25-year-old hits the ball hard and has decent power which could give him a leg up over his competition for the Rangers' job opening in left field.
Mar 5 - 6:09 PM

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that "there seems to be some pessimism" regarding the prognosis of Hunter Pence (hand).

Pence underwent X-rays after having to leave Thursday's Cactus League game following a hit by pitch. Schulman cautions that there's no official word yet, but it sounds like he's hearing Pence's hand could be fractured. An update on the outfielder is expected soon.
