Trevor Plouffe passed an imPACT concussion test on Thursday.

Plouffe took a knee to the head Tuesday night when he tried to break up a double play and was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness. However, he has already done some cardio work and should return right around when he's first eligible.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Friday that he's sticking with Fernando Rodney at closer.

In fact, Maddon said that there hasn't even been a discussion about a possible change. Rodney has a 5.40 ERA to go along with four blown saves and 17 walks in 18 1/3 innings this season, but he is going to get every chance to pitch out of his funk. Joel Peralta would be the likely alternative if he continues to falter.

Ross Detwiler (back) played catch Thursday and will throw a bullpen session Saturday.

Detwiler left his start on May 15 with lower back spasms, but managed to avoid a stint on the disabled list. Barring any setbacks, he will return to the rotation Tuesday against the Orioles.

Brewers activated LHP Tom Gorzelanny from the 15-day disabled list.

Gorzelanny has been sidelined since May 7 due to left shoulder tendinitis. He returns to a 2.30 ERA and 10/8 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings.
May 24 - 4:47 PM

Brewers placed RHP Hiram Burgos on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 22, with a right shoulder impingement.

The move clears a spot for Tom Gorzelanny's return from the disabled list. The severity of Burgos' injury isn't yet clear and the Brewers haven't announced who will start in his place Monday. The rookie right-hander has a 6.44 ERA and 18/11 K/BB ratio in 29 1/3 innings over six starts this season.

Danny Espinosa has been playing with a small fracture in his right wrist for the past month.

It's actually a loose bone chip in his hand. The injury stems from when he was hit by a pitch from Paul Maholm on April 14 and certainly explains his struggles. Espinosa hopes to avoid a trip to the disabled list and possible surgery, but the Nationals plan to rest him for a few days. Steve Lombardozzi will fill in at second base for the time being.

Phillies transferred RHP Roy Halladay from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Michael Martinez on the 40-man roster. It won't have any impact on Halladay's timeline, as he had shoulder surgery earlier this month and is unlikely to make it back until late August at the earliest.

Mike Olt has experienced improvement with his vision problem.

Olt was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Round Rock earlier this month due to a nagging eye issue, but symptoms have improved following eye drops and medication. He's scheduled to head to Surprise, Arizona to begin workouts and will eventually make his way back to Triple-A. There's no timetable for his return, though. Olt was hitting just .139 (10-for-72) with one home run and 32 strikeouts in 20 games prior to being placed on the disabled list.
