Andre Ethier (back) is expected to receive a prognosis from his doctors on Saturday.

The veteran outfielder continues to battle a multitude of ailments and can't seem to get healthy. At this point, it's hard to count on him for much heading into 2017 as even when he gets on the field he'll be facing stiff competition for at-bats in the outfield.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Rangers have also discussed a contract extension with Nomar Mazara.

They reportedly agreed to a six-year extension with Rougned Odor on Saturday and may not be finished with locking up their young stars. Unlike Odor though, there are no indications that a deal is close in this instance. Mazara hit .266/.320/.419 with 20 homers and 64 RBI in 145 games as a 21-year-old rookie in 2016.

Ian Kennedy will start the Royals' home opener on April 10 against the Athletics.

That means he'll also start the second game of the regular season against the Twins, following Danny Duffy who got the nod for Opening Day. Kennedy has been outstanding in Cactus League competition, firing 11 1/3 shutout innings with a 12/1 K/BB ratio.
Mar 25 - 12:20 PM

Royals manager Ned Yost confirmed Saturday that Danny Duffy will get the ball on Opening Day against the Twins in Minnesota.

Duffy has developed into the ace of the Royals' staff and is getting rewarded with the Opening Day nod after a terrific 2017 season where he registered a 3.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 188/42 K/BB ratio across 179 2/3 innings. He still isn't getting the love he deserves in many fantasy drafts.
Mar 25 - 12:18 PM

Rangers manager Jeff Bannister announced Saturday that Yu Darvish will start on Opening Day against the Indians on April 3.

The decision ultimately came down to Darvish or Cole Hamels for the Opening Day honor. The right-hander has looked good in Cactus League competition, compiling a 2.54 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17/8 K/BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings. With his massive strikeout potential, he's rightfully being selected as a top-10 starting pitcher in fantasy drafts.

A precautionary MRI on Jon Gray's toe came back without issue on Saturday.

Gray as removed from Friday's start against the Giants due to left foot soreness and follow-up exams have confirmed that there's no real injury to worry about here. He should have no problem making his next start and being ready for the start of the regular season.

Gregor Blanco indicated that his right side is feeling much improved on Saturday.

He was removed from Thursday's game due to tightness in his side. The 33-year-old has struggled in Cactus League play, hitting just .225 with one stolen base in 40 at-bats. He needs all of the time possible to earn a reserve spot on the club's Opening Day roster.
Mar 25 - 12:00 PM

Carlos Gomez (shoulder) is expected to take swings on Sunday and return to Cactus League action early in the week.

Gomez hasn't swung a bat since jamming his left shoulder during Tuesday's game. He's still considered day-to-day and looks as though he should be ready for Opening Day as long as he avoids any setbacks this week.
