Golden Tate had three catches for 36 yards in the Lions' third preseason game Friday night.
Tate was featured in the short-passing game and had a team-high four targets. He's locked in as the No. 2 receiver in the Lions' offense and should see regular single coverage opposite Calvin Johnson. Playing in a pass-heavy offense, Tate has a good chance to improve on his 64/898/5 line from 2013. He currently has an ADP in the seventh round.
Kenbrell Thompkins started the Patriots' third preseason game Friday night, catching 2-of-3 targets for 35 yards.
Thompkins worked ahead of Brandon LaFell, though both players saw extensive time with the first-team offense. Thompkins dropped a wide-open look in the middle of the field in the second quarter, but Tom Brady came back to him on the very next play for a 14-yard gain. Brady has recently expressed confidence in the second-year wideout, and it is not inconceivable Thompkins holds onto the "X" receiver job even when (if) Aaron Dobson gets healthy. Thompkins has 6 catches for 78 yards and a touchdown this preseason.
Updating a previous item, Seahawks TE Luke Willson passed concussion tests during Friday night's preseason game.
He's been medically cleared and will be fine after the concussion scare. Willson has been quiet in August, managing two preseason catches for 27 yards. The seam-stretching sophomore will be an inconsistent fantasy TE2 parked on the depth chart behind Zach Miller. Willson is more attractive in Dynasty leagues.
Brice Butler caught three passes for 60 yards with two touchdowns in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.
Butler continues to light it up against third-stringers. The 2013 seventh-rounder out of San Diego State now has 11 catches for 178 yards with three touchdowns in three preseason games, surely solidifying his spot on the 53-man roster.
Martellus Bennett secured his lone target for 22 yards in the Bears' third preseason game Friday night at Seattle.
Bennett was ruled to have scored a touchdown on a second-quarter wheel route after a pinpoint throw by Jay Cutler, but it was overturned on replay when Marty B's rear end was shown to be down just before the goal line. Suspended for the preseason opener, Bennett now has two catches for 47 yards in two exhibition affairs. He's a low-end, low-ceiling TE1 in fantasy leagues.
Calvin Johnson had two catches for 27 yards in his preseason debut Friday night.
He was targeted three times in the passing game. The Lions rested Johnson in their first two preseason games as a precaution, but he looked fully healthy. Johnson is not expected to play in Detroit's preseason finale.
Mychal Rivera caught two passes for three yards in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.
Rivera soaked up all the first-team snaps at tight end with David Ausberry (knee) sidelined. A poor blocker who can't run, there's nothing to see here. Rivera, who has four catches for 29 yards this preseason, will be a rotational player this season.
Storm Johnson rushed five times for 11 yards in Friday night's preseason game against the Lions.
Johnson was the No. 3 running back through Jacksonville's rotation. He had more carries than Denard Robinson, but averaged 2.2 yards per attempt. Johnson has 25 carries for just 46 yards through three preseason games.
