Chris Sale struggled through another start Wednesday, allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Tigers.

Sale walked five and threw a wild pitch. His velocity has been just fine, but the poor command in his last two starts suggests something in his delivery is out of whack. Fortunately, he has one of the best pitching coaches in the game to help turn him around. We're not particularly concerned.

Joba Chamberlain was lit up for four runs and six hits in the eighth inning while taking a loss to the White Sox on Wednesday.

Joakim Soria never got into the game as the Tigers led a 6-3 lead slip away. It's the first obvious case of Joe Nathan's absence hurting the team this year. Maybe Nathan would have stumbled some in the ninth, but at least Soria would have turned the lead over to him.

Victor Martinez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI versus the White Sox on Wednesday.

Martinez took forever and a day to get around the bases after taking Chris Sale deep in the third, but he finally got his first homer of the year. That'll probably erase any thoughts Brad Ausmus was having about taking him out of the cleanup spot.

Rajai Davis tripled, doubled and scored twice Wednesday against the White Sox.

The problem with Davis tripling and doubling is that it makes it much harder for him to steal bases. Stick to singling, buddy.

Carlos Carrasco pitched seven innings of three-run ball in defeating the Royals on Wednesday.

Carrasco hasn't turned in any dominant outings since taking a liner off his face on April 14, but they're coming. He has a nice 35/8 K/BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings for the season.

Mets minor leaguer Domingo Tapia underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday.

Tapia will be out at least a year following the procedure. Tapia had a 3.96 ERA in 21 starts at High-A St. Lucie in 2014.
May 6 - 11:49 PM

Danny Duffy was pulled after giving up four runs in one-plus innings Wednesday against the Indians.

That's a horribly short start for a guy who didn't walk anyone, but Duffy did hit a couple of batters along with giving up six hits. It didn't seem like his night was going to get any better if he was left in, and at least Brandon Finnegan helped salvage his ERA by stranding both runners he inherited with none out in the second. Keep Duffy active in mixed leagues.
May 6 - 11:49 PM

Brandon Moss went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI against the Royals on Wednesday.

Moss is up to five homers and 21 RBI. He could start sitting against some lefties now with Nick Swisher back, but it didn't happen tonight versus Danny Duffy, thankfully.
