Pablo Sandoval (foot) went 1-for-2 and drew a walk in his return to the Red Sox lineup on Friday.

Sandoval had been sidelined since leaving Tuesday's game with a bruised left foot after being drilled by a pitch. He's off to a terrific start to his Red Sox career, hitting .316/.409/.316 in the early going.
Apr 18 - 8:08 AM

Brett Gardner (wrist) appeared as a pinch runner in Friday's victory over the Rays.

He has been nursing a bone bruise in his right wrist and is expected to return to the Yankees starting lineup on Saturday. He certainly did his job on Friday after pinch-running for Carlos Beltran, Gardner swiped second base and scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by Alex Rodriguez.

Clayton Kershaw is on the board with his first win after surrendering three runs -- one earned -- in six innings Friday against the Rockies.

Kershaw struck out 12 and lowered his ERA from 5.84 to 4.42. He still wasn't at his absolute best, but he's going to be just fine.
Apr 18 - 1:58 AM

Kyle Kendrick was tagged for six runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Dodgers in Friday's loss.

Kendrick has followed up his surprising Opening Day win (seven scoreless against the Brewers) by giving up 14 runs his last two times out. This would be a bigger problem if anyone out there actually owned him in a fantasy league.
Apr 18 - 1:56 AM

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored versus the Rockies on Friday.

Even though the homer binge ended quickly, Gonzalez is still batting a robust .550 through 40 at-bats. He has six doubles in his last five games, and he's already scored 13 runs in 10 games despite still running like he's Adrian Gonzalez.
Apr 18 - 1:53 AM

Howie Kendrick had a two-run homer and an RBI double against the Rockies on Friday.

Kendrick is a top-10 fantasy second baseman as a middle-of-the-order bat for the Dodgers. He's hitting .342 right now, and he's up to eight RBI in 10 games.
Apr 18 - 1:50 AM

Charlie Blackmon took Clayton Kershaw deep on Friday for his first homer of the season.

That's the kind of thing that will help keep him in the lineup against left-handers. Blackmon spent most of last April hitting over .400, but he's been quieter this month, batting .263 with six runs scored, four RBI and one steal in 38 at-bats. He'll have value in mixed leagues for as long as the Rockies continue leading him off.
Apr 18 - 1:48 AM

Josh Collmenter pitched his second career shutout and went 3-for-5 with an RBI at the plate Friday against the Giants.

He ended up with almost as many hits as the four he allowed on the night. He struck out just two, but allowing the Giants to put the ball in play hasn't hurt many pitchers of late (Collmenter being one exception, having given up five runs in a loss to the Giants on Opening Day). Collmenter's previous shutout came last May 29 against the Reds. Unless the Diamondbacks decide to rearrange their rotation and pitch him Wednesday against the Rangers, he's due to face the Pirates next time out.
