Jorge Polanco slugged a three-run homer as the Twins split Monday’s doubleheader against the White Sox.

Polanco entered Monday’s action with three homers through his first 94 games this season, so of course he connected for three-run homers in both games of the doubleheader. The 24-year-old is now riding a modest six-game hitting streak. He’s batting .245/.294/.363 overall.

Nick Delmonico connected for a solo homer as the White Sox dropped the nightcap of Monday’s doubleheader against the Twins.

His fifth-inning solo shot was the only offense for the White Sox before Adam Engel hits solo homer of his own in the ninth. Delmonico has been a huge surprise for Chicago since his call-up, batting .343/.443/.642 with six homers and 12 RBI over 19 games. His numbers in the minors didn’t really stand out and he’s sporting a BABIP approaching .400, so we’re skeptical about jumping aboard, but the opportunities should continue to be there down the stretch.

Curtis Granderson hit a grand slam in the Dodgers' comeback win over the Pirates on Monday.

Granderson's four-run shot drove Pirates starter Gerrit Cole from the game in the top of the seventh inning. The new Los Angeles outfielder also singled and drew a walk in the 12-inning victory, finishing 2-for-5 with one run scored and four RBI. He's rattled off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored through his first three games with Los Angeles.

Josh Harrison finished 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Pirates' loss to the Dodgers on Monday.

Harrison did his part, swatting a solo shot in the bottom of the third inning off Dodgers starter Alex Wood and a run-scoring two-bagger in the bottom of the eighth against Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez. Harrison was the only Pirates batter to register multiple hits in the 12-inning affair at PNC Park. The 30-year-old utilityman has a cool .281/.349/.440 slash line with 15 home runs, 44 RBI, 12 stolen bases, and 62 runs scored in 118 games this season.

Ross Stripling notched his second save of the season on Monday night against the Pirates.

Kenley Jansen worked the 10th inning in this one, so Stripling got the assignment in the bottom of the 12th. He gave up a one-out single to Andrew McCutchen and issued an intentional walk to Josh Bell but ultimately induced a game-ending lineout from Max Moroff. Stripling owns a decent 3.41 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 59/14 K/BB ratio in 58 innings this season out of the Los Angeles bullpen.

Alex Wood yielded three earned runs over six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Wood left the game with the Dodgers trailing 3-0, but the never-say-die club pulled out yet another comeback victory -- this one in 12 innings. Wood gave up five hits, including three solo home runs, though he struck out five and issued zero walks. The left-hander stands 14-1 on the year with a 2.41 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 127/30 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 frames. Up next for him is a start at home against the Brewers.
Aug 21 - 11:49 PM

Gerrit Cole was charged with five earned runs over 6 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Dodgers.

Cole hung zeros until the top of the seventh, when the first-place Dodgers exploded for five runs on three singles, a walk, and a big grand slam off the bat of Curtis Granderson. Cole left to a chorus of boos at PNC Park after spoiling a 3-0 lead and Pittsburgh eventually lost the game in extra innings. The right-hander has a disappointing 4.16 ERA in 26 starts this season. He'll face the Reds on the road next.
Aug 21 - 11:45 PM

A.J. Pollock hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the 10th inning Monday as the Diamondbacks defeated the Mets 3-2.

It proved to be a huge home run for the Wild Card-hunting Diamondbacks after Michael Conforto answered with a solo shot off Fernando Rodney in the bottom of the 10th. Pollock isn't having a very good August overall and is up to just six home runs in 79 games this season, but the dynamic 29-year-old center fielder certainly possesses the goods to finish strong down the stretch.
