Carlos Gomez launched a grand slam and finished with five RBI to help down the Reds by a 12-1 score on Friday.

Gomez stepped up with the bases loaded and the Brewers up 5-0 in the seventh inning. He promptly unloaded on a Carlos Contreras offering for a grand slam to vanquish any vague hopes of a Reds comeback. In addition to the big slam, Gomez also chipped in with an RBI single to finish 3-for-5 with five total RBI. Overall, he's hitting .271/.314/.427 with six homers, 31 RBI and 36 runs scored. Plus seven steals, though he's also been caught four times.

Chris Archer delivered another dominant start on Friday, racking up eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Yankees.

Archer surrendered just three hits and three walks in the contest. Unfortunately for him, and for fantasy owners, the Rays bullpen was unable to protect the three-run advantage he handed them. The 26-year-old has been one of the finest pitchers in all of baseball this season, registering a 2.18 ERA and 141/28 K/BB ratio over 115 2/3 innings. He'll look to finish the first half strong when he does battle against the Royals in Kansas City on Thursday.

Rangers designated RHP Neftali Feliz for assignment.

The Rangers needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Matt Harrison who is returning from the disabled list on Saturday, but it seems like Feliz is an odd choice after he fired a pair of scoreless innings on Friday. The 27-year-old should generate interest on waivers.
Jul 3 - 11:39 PM

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's demolition of the Reds.

Throw a dart at the Brewer lineup on Friday and you were liable to hit somebody having a big game. Parra did his part leading off. He smacked a solo homer in the first inning to start the scoring party, then added a sacrifice fly in the ninth just for kicks and giggles. His numbers are solid across the board, as he's slashing .303/.337/.466 with six homers, 24 RBI and 35 runs scored. He could very well end up being traded before the deadline, given the Brewers' 34-48 record.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jay Bruce went 1-for-4 with a double in Friday's blowout loss to the Brewers.

Bruce has often seemed like an enigma wrapped an injury-riddled noodle, but he actually hit .263/.345/.495 with five homers and 17 RBI in June. He's an interesting buy-low candidate for fantasy purposes now that the power's starting to show itself.
Jul 3 - 11:33 PM

Erick Aybar had a terrific night at the plate in Friday's 8-2 victory over the Rangers, going 5-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

He also scored a pair of runs in the contest. Aybar capped off the Halos' six-run uprising in the second inning with a two-run single. He has been a very solid and stable source of fantasy production at the shortstop position this season, slashing .274/.315/.336 with 25 RBI.
Jul 3 - 11:30 PM

Todd Frazier failed to pick up a hit in Friday's loss to the Brewers, finishing the game 0-for-3.

The Reds managed just one extra-base hit in the entire contest and just one run, as the Brewers put up a rare beatdown to the tune of 12-1. Frazier's hit-less game does nothing to obscure what's been a great season to this point. The third baseman is currently slashing .281/.341/.600 with 25 homers, 54 RBI, 54 runs scored and eight steals.
Jul 3 - 11:28 PM

Garrett Richards was dominant in Friday's victory over the Rangers, allowing just one run on six hits over 7 2/3 innings of work.

The right-hander punched out six on the night while issuing just one walk. The only blemish on his evening was an RBI single by Adrian Beltre in the sixth inning. Now 9-5 on the season, Richards sports a terrific 3.35 ERA and 74/34 K/BB ratio over 94 innings. He'll look to carry over this strong effort when he squares off against the Mariners in Seattle on Thursday.
