Cardinals optioned RHP Miguel Socolovich to Triple-A Memphis.

Socolovich allowed one run over 3 2/3 relief innings in his short stint with the big club. He figures to be back up in September, if not before.

Cardinals purchased the contract of RHP Mike Mayers from Triple-A Memphis.

Mayers will make his major league debut on Sunday against the Dodgers, as the Cards needed a spot start after a doubleheader last week. It's the first time this season that they've used someone out of their five-man rotation to start a game. Mayers has put up a 2.62 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 86/36 K/BB ratio across 106 2/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He'll likely be optioned right after the game.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Diamondbacks "have let teams know Shelby Miller is available in a trade."

Passan, rather obviously, notes that the price to acquire Miller "isn't nearly what it cost them eight months ago." The right-hander's stock has dropped so much after a 7.14 ERA in 14 starts and a demotion to the minors that you've got to wonder if the D'Backs aren't better off riding it out. Perhaps they think they can capitalize somewhat on a depressed starting pitching market. Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports that the Dodgers and Marlins are among the teams that have inquired on Miller.

Coco Crisp was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to neck soreness.

Crisp has a history of neck issues, although there's been no indication that this is more than a day-to-day thing. The A's put Yonder Alonso in the lineup in Crisp's place, moving Danny Valencia to right field and Jake Smolinski to center.

Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM and 670thescore.com reports that the Indians "have the best names on the table" for Aroldis Chapman.

Previous reports have had both the Nationals and Cubs out in front in the sweepstakes for Chapman. There's also been a "mystery team" floated. In other words, welcome to the trade deadline. The Indians already have a capable closer in Cody Allen, but adding Chapman would bolster their bullpen for a possible playoff run.

Carlos Rodon (wrist) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said whether Rodon needs an additional rehab start will depend on how he feels. In other words, he should rejoin the Pale Hose rotation later this week as long as he doesn't have a setback. Rodon has missed two and a half weeks with a sprained left wrist.

Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Sunday that Tyler Glasnow's shoulder might have been bothering him before his start on Saturday.

Glasnow was pulled in the third inning against the Phillies. The good news is that Huntington thinks the injury was caught before it got too bad, although the GM noted that Glasnow should've alerted the staff sooner that he wasn't 100 percent. Glasnow hasn't undergone any tests and it doesn't appear at this point that he will, so he might not be sidelined for terribly long.

Logan Morrison (wrist) remained out of the Rays' lineup Sunday.

Morrison hasn't played in a week due to a wrist issue. Rays manager Kevin Cash said recently that the injury was getting worse, although the club obviously hasn't placed LoMo on the disabled list yet. Steve Pearce is at first base Sunday.
