Dodgers optioned 3B Chris Taylor to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Taylor had a terrific spring for the Dodgers but it was always going to be tough for him to make the team with Justin Turner blocking his path at third base. He hit .370 with four steals during his 21-game stint in the Cactus League. The 26-year-old should see time in Chavez Ravine later in the year.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said he doesn't have a "plan" for how Manny Pina and Jett Bandy will share playing time behind the plate.

Pina and Bandy will be the Brewers' Opening Day catchers while Andrew Susac recovers from trapezius discomfort. Combined the two have logged just 298 career at-bats in the big leagues. Ultimately it should be close to a 50/50 split, though neither are recommended fantasy options.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy plans to use Jae-gyun Hwang in left field this weekend against the Athletics.

Hwang is a third baseman by trade but the Giants are grooming him to be a jack-of-all-trades. He's expected to play both corner infield positions as well as left field when he opens the season at Triple-A Sacramento. Hwang has had an excellent spring, hitting .356 with five homers over 45 Cactus League at-bats. He'll see time in San Francisco at some point.

Will Smith underwent successful Tommy John surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles.

He's hoping to be recovered and big-league ready by next May. The 27-year-old pitched to a 3.35 ERA over 53 outings for the Brewers and Giants last year. Smith is under team control through 2019.

Tommy Milone has made the Brewers' Opening Day roster.

Milone had been a candidate for the starting rotation but instead he'll operate as the lone lefty in Milwaukee's pen. The 29-year-old is lucky he made the team after posting an ugly 9.69 ERA over six Cactus League outings. He'll bide his time as a long reliever until a spot opens up in the starting rotation.

MLB.com's Mark Bowman confirmed Mauricio Cabrera (elbow) will begin the season on the 10-day disabled list.

Tests showed no structural damage in Cabrera's elbow. He just needs rest. When healthy, the hard-throwing right-hander will occupy a setup role ahead of veteran closer Jim Johnson.

Clayton Richard surrendered three runs in 1 2/3 innings against the Rockies on Thursday.

Richard entered the game with a woeful 7.36 ERA and managed to make it even worse. He finishes Cactus League play with an 8.10 ERA in six spring starts. His lack of strikeouts -- just nine in 20 innings -- is another reason for concern. Richard is expected to be in the starting rotation at the beginning of the season. He registered a nice 3.33 ERA in 67 2/3 innings last year with the Cubs and Padres.

Diamondbacks sent 1B/OF Christian Walker outright to Triple-A Reno.

He cleared waivers and is now off the 40-man roster. Walker was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on Tuesday. He showed good power in the minors last year, slugging 18 homers over 131 games for Triple-A Norfolk. He turned 26 earlier this week.
