According to FOX Sports' Jon Morosi, the Phillies have made left-hander Cole Hamels available.
ESPN's Buster Olney heard last week that Hamels was not going to be shopped at this year's July 31 trade deadline, but something has apparently changed. Morosi says the asking price is very high, so it's far from a sure thing that the 30-year-old southpaw will be dealt. The Dodgers are believed to have interest. Hamels, who has a 2.72 ERA and 125/39 K/BB ratio in 122 1/3 innings this season, is under contract with Philadelphia through 2019.
Scooter Gennett (quad) is back in the Brewers' starting lineup on Monday night against the Rays.
Gennett was out of the Brewers' lineup for five games with tightness in his right quad, but he made an appearance as a pinch-hitter on Sunday and will start at second base in Monday's series-opener versus Tampa Bay.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Alfonso Soriano has told friends that he'll take the rest of the year off.
Soriano was released by the Yankees on July 14 after batting just .221/.244/.367 with six home runs in 67 games and hasn't drawn much interest on the open market. The veteran outfielder is considering trying to return to the majors in 2015 at the age of 39.
Ervin Santana dominated the Padres over eight shutout innings Monday in the Braves' 2-0 victory.
Santana carved his way through the weak San Diego lineup with ease, allowing only five hits while striking out 11 batters. He did not issue a walk. It was the second straight double-digit strikeout game for Santana, who fanned 10 Marlins last Wednesday night. He is 10-6 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 118/37 K/BB ratio in 131 1/3 frames this season. A rematch with the Padres is next.
Chase Utley is out of the Phillies' lineup on Monday.
It's just a routine day of rest for the veteran second baseman. Reid Brignac will get the nod in his place Monday in the Phillies' series-opener against the Mets.
Diamondbacks activated C Jordan Pacheco from the 15-day disabled list.
Pacheco missed over a month with tendinitis in his right shoulder. He was 3-for-8 as a pinch-hitter for the Diamondbacks before the tendinitis put him on the shelf.
Diamondbacks released 1B/OF Nick Evans.
Evans has signed a deal with Japan's Rakuten Golden Eagles. The 28-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder tallied two home runs, two doubles, and seven RBI in 18 games this season with the Diamondbacks.
Craig Kimbrel collected his 32nd save of the season in dominant fashion Monday versus the Padres.
Kimbrel struck out all three batters he faced in the top of the ninth inning, needing only 13 pitches. Atlanta's closer has a ridiculous 1.90 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 74/17 K/BB ratio in 42 2/3 total frames this year.
