Chris Coghlan went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Coghlan scored on a wild pitch by Marlins starter Mat Latos in the first inning, then pushed the advantage to 2-0 with an RBI single in the eighth. The Cubs would win by that final score. While his numbers aren't eye-popping, he's shown frisky power and is a useful real-life baseball piece, if not a legitimate fantasy one. Coghlan's hitting .254/.355/.428 with eight homers, 19 RBI and 31 runs scored this season.

Reds RHP prospect Tyler Mahle fanned three hitters in six shutout frames Saturday in a win for Low-A Dayton.

Mahle is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in his last two starts. He leads the Midwest League in strikeouts with 87. The right-hander is also second in wins (eight) and innings pitched (91). Opponents have hit just .238 against Mahle with runners in scoring position. The 20-year-old has a good chance to move up to High-A Daytona before the season ends.

Eric Surkamp was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Oklahoma City and is likely to start for the Dodgers on Monday.

With Carlos Frias placed on the disabled list, the Dodgers are forced to scramble to fill his place in the starting rotation. The 27-year-old Surkamp has posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 56/20 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season.

Adeiny Hechavarria went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Nobody on the Marlins (five total hits, all singles, no runs) did anything offensively, so Hechavarria shouldn't feel too bad here. He's currently posting a .288/.325/.390 triple-slash with four homers, 33 RBI, 36 runs scored and three steals. Almost half of his counting production came in April, when he scored 16 runs and drove in 16. The numbers have clearly leveled off since that fantastic start.

Marlins optioned OF Marcell Ozuna to Triple-A New Orleans.

It's a very curious move for the Marlins, who are struggling as a team on offense, to demote their starting center fielder to Triple-A. While he has struggled of late, the 24-year-old is still hitting a respectable .249/.301/.337 on the season with four homers and 26 RBI in 79 games.
Jul 5 - 5:22 PM

Kyle Hendricks was on his game in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Marlins, tossing 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball.

Hendricks and Marlins starter Mat Latos were locked into an old school pitcher's duel, with both pitchers lasting through seven innings. It was Hendricks who persevered for the victory, improving to 4-4 on the year. He'll carry a 3.82 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start, a home showdown with the rival White Sox.

Cubs 3B prospect Jeimer Candelario mashed four hits in Saturday's win for High-A Myrtle Beach.

That's a season-high for Candelario, who has hit .400 with 10 RBI over his last eight games. His average has shot up 19 points during that span (.263 to .282). 28 of Candelario's 73 hits this season have gone for extra bases. The 23-year-old has posted a .313 average in 83 at-bats since June 1. Before that, he was hitting just .267.

Braves reinstated RHP Arodys Vizcaino from the restricted list.

The right-hander was suspended for the first 80 games of the 2015 season due to a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs. The 24-year-old has a very live arm and will be used in middle relief for the Braves.
