Nick Ahmed singled in Martin Prado in the top of the 15th to lead the Diamondbacks past the Reds 2-1 on Monday.

It was Ahmed's second single in six at-bats. He's hitting just .229 with no walks and no homers in 48 at-bats since his callup, but he's flashed plenty of leather at shortstop. He's a potential regular at the position despite his lack of any real offensive upside.
Jul 29 - 12:13 AM

Chase Anderson held the Reds to one run and three hits over seven innings in Monday's extra-inning win.

Anderson wasn't involved in the decision, but he was effective once again, recording a third straight quality start. He's looking like a keeper for the Diamondbacks.
Jul 29 - 12:11 AM

Homer Bailey pitched eight innings and allowed only one run against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

In part because the Reds front office has declined to import any offensive talent to help cover for all of the recent injuries, Bailey is 0-1 despite a 2.67 ERA in four starts this month. The players deserve better.
Jul 29 - 12:10 AM

Ender Inciarte went 0-for-6 in the 15-inning game versus the Reds on Monday.

Inciarte can't do much more offensively than hit singles, but he had been doing a pretty nice job of that recently, going 7-for-16 since the break and 39-for-137 (.285) since the beginning of June. Ideally, he'd be a fifth outfielder, but he'll continue to occupy an expanded role until A.J. Pollock returns.
Jul 29 - 12:08 AM

Devin Mesoraco went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and a walk Monday in the 15-inning game against the Diamondbacks.

At least Mesoraco was in the cleanup spot tonight. Unfortunately, the three guys ahead of him combined to go 0-for-16 with two walks (both courtesy of Jay Bruce). Mesoraco now has 17 homers in 234 at-bats this year. He entered the season with 16 homers in 538 at-bats as a major leaguer.
Jul 29 - 12:05 AM

Brett Oberholtzer picked up his third win after allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings Monday against the A's.

Oberholtzer has given the Astros three straight quality starts, though the win tonight was his first since May 30 (he went on to spend most of June in the minors). He's back looking like a legitimate AL-only option, though he's not to be touched in mixed leagues.
Jul 28 - 11:57 PM

Jesse Chavez was roughed up by the Astros on Monday, allowing six runs over 5 1/3 innings to fall to 8-7.

Chavez has been blessed with an easy schedule lately, but he hasn't capitalized, giving up 11 runs in 16 2/3 innings in two starts against the Astros and one versus the Mariners. He's one start away from surpassing his career high in innings, and the anticipated trip to the bullpen might come sooner rather than later. If so, the A's would turn to Tommy Milone or Drew Pomeranz in his place.
Jul 28 - 11:54 PM

Chris Carter hit a three-run homer off Jesse Chavez on Monday, giving him 21 homers this year.

He hit the first of the Astros' four homers tonight. Carter is 10-for-29 in his last eight games, raising his average from .200 to .214.
