Rays placed RHP Alex Colome on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27.

The 26-year-old hurler spent five days in the hospital earlier in the month while battling the illness and is still working to regain his full strength. He's expected to be ready to join the Rays in mid-April.

Denard Span (abdomen) threw a successful long toss session on Saturday with distances up to 150 feet.

Span continues to progress nicely in his recovery from core muscle surgery, but still isn't quite ready for game action. He isn't expected to rejoin the Nationals lineup until the end of April.

Twins manager Paul Molitor indicated Saturday that Shane Robinson will make the Opening Day roster.

Robinson is expected to platoon in center field with Jordan Schafer to begin the season. The 30-year-old is a career .231/.303/.308 hitter in 402 big league at-bats, so his fantasy value is minimal outside of the deepest AL-only formats.
Mar 28 - 10:41 AM

Twins manager Paul Molitor officially named Danny Santana as his starting shortstop on Saturday.

It comes as no surprise, but it is now official. The 24-year-old has had a very strong spring, hitting .341/.356/.455 with two homers, though his 9/1 K/BB ratio is concerning for a player who could hit out of the leadoff slot.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Saturday that he's optimistic Justin Verlander's triceps cramp will not be a long-term issue.

Verlander left Friday's Grapefruit League start with what the team is calling a right triceps cramp. While it doesn't sound as though it's a serious issue, any arm trouble for a starting pitcher definitely concerning. As of now, he's still expected to make his final spring start next week.

Josmil Pinto failed part of his concussion test on Friday and is scheduled to retake it again on Sunday.

Pinto claims that he is no longer experiencing post-concussion symptoms, but the team isn't quite ready to clear him just yet. As long as he's cleared on Sunday, he should be ready in time for the start of the regular season.

Jayson Werth is scheduled to play defense only in a minor league contest on Saturday.

Werth is still experiencing some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder when he's hitting, so he'll get his work in without stepping to the plate. At this point, it seems doubtful that he'll be in the Nationals starting lineup on Opening Day, but should be ready in early April.
Mar 28 - 10:17 AM

Bobby Parnell (elbow) has been progressing quicker than anticipated in his recovery from Tommy John surgery and is expected to return to the Mets bullpen in mid-April.

The early timetable that the team gave was early May, but it appears that the veteran right-hander should beat that estimate. He's expected to work in a setup capacity in his return, but could eventually challenge Jenrry Mejia for save opportunities.
