Fernando Salas received a shot Thursday to help the inflammation in his right shoulder.

Salas doesn't have any structural damage, but the Cardinals will shut him down for a while and hope the shot helps to speed his recovery along. There's no timetable for his return.

J.P. Arencibia went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Thursday's 12-6 win over the Orioles.

Arencibia delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth, a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth and an RBI ground out in the eighth. While the 27-year-old backstop is only hitting .230 with a .244 on-base percentage, he has 11 home runs to go along with 24 RBI. He's on pace to set career-highs in both categories.

Octavio Dotel (elbow) threw a bullpen session Thursday.

It's the first time he's thrown from the bump since being shut down over the last week. Dotel will eventually need a rehab assignment, but it's not clear when it will begin. He'll likely return sometime next month if all goes well.

Brandon Morrow yielded six runs in seven innings Thursday against the Orioles, but still managed to pick up a victory.

Morrow was touched up for 10 hits, including three home runs, so he was hardly deserving of the victory. Fortunately for him, the Toronto offense kept piling on against the Orioles. He struck out five and walked one in the win and now owns a disappointing 5.50 ERA through nine starts this season. Things can only get better, but it'll be tough to trust him in mixed leagues next week when he takes on the Braves.

Making his major league debut, Kevin Gausman yielded four runs in five innings Thursday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

He struck out five and walked two in the loss. Gausman started out with three scoreless frames, but the Blue Jays got to him for two runs in fourth and two more in his final inning of work. The 22-year-old right-hander showed flashes of brilliance at times, topping out at 99 mph on his fastball and mixing in a nasty changeup. With improved command, he has the chance to be a dominant starter for a long time. He's worth considering in mixed leagues next week against a struggling Nationals' lineup.

Edwin Encarnacion smacked a grand slam Thursday against the Orioles.

It was his 13th home run of the season and his fifth career grand slam. The Blue Jays had a one-run lead at the time, so his sixth-inning blast off Pedro Strop provided a nice little cushion. Encarnacion also drew a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning and eventually came around to score.

Manny Machado went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.

With his 20th multi-hit game of the season, his batting line now sits at .330/.362/.527 on the year. Machado leads the majors with 21 doubles through 47 games. At this rate, he could become the first player since 1936 to make it to 60 doubles in a season. Colorado's Todd Helton had 59 in 2000 while teammate Brian Roberts had 56 in 2009. Earl Webb set the all-time record with 67 back in 1931.

Twins purchased the contract of RHP P.J. Walters from Triple-A Rochester.

That means we'll have to wait a little longer for Kyle Gibson to arrive. Walters and Samuel Deduno will join the rotation this weekend, taking the spots vacated by Vance Worley and Pedro Hernandez. He's put up a 3.31 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings this season at Rochester.
