Chris Gimenez has made the Twins' Opening Day roster.

He beat out John Ryan Murphy for the backup catcher job behind starter Jason Castro. The well-traveled 34-year-old has caught for five clubs since 2011. Gimenez isn't known for his offense. He's just a .218 lifetime hitter at the major league level.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Neil Ramirez is expected to exercise his opt-out clause on Friday if he doesn't make the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Ramirez has seen mixed results this spring, compiling a 3.72 ERA over 10 relief outings. As is, he's probably on the outside looking in for a roster spot. The 27-year-old made 18 appearances for three different clubs last season. He's developing a reputation as a journeyman.

Indians optioned SS Erik Gonzalez to Triple-A Columbus.

Gonzalez injured his hand last week but returned to Cactus League play on Tuesday. He hit a respectable .311 this spring but struck out in 36.5 percent of his at-bats. A little more seasoning in the minors could do him some good.
Mar 30 - 5:28 PM

Indians optioned 3B Giovanny Urshela to Triple-A Columbus.

He was competing for a backup role at third base but lost out to Yandy Diaz. Urshela did as well as could be expected this spring, hitting .268 across 41 Cactus League at-bats with two homers and seven RBI. The 25-year-old made 81 appearances for the Tribe in 2015 but spent all of last year in the minors.

Michael Martinez has made the Indians' Opening Day roster.

He did it by hitting .357 during Cactus League play. The 34-year-old was a jack of all trades last season, starting games at second base, third, shortstop and all three outfield positions. Despite hitting well in spring training, Martinez is just a .197 lifetime hitter in the big leagues.
Mar 30 - 5:21 PM

Indians purchased the contract of 3B/OF Yandy Diaz from Triple-A Columbus.

He locked down one of the Indians' final bench spots after hitting .429 with two homers and 13 RBI over 42 Cactus League at-bats. The 25-year-old could be close to an everyday player while Jose Ramirez fills in for Jason Kipnis (shoulder) at second base. Michael Martinez has also made the team while Erik Gonzalez and Giovanny Urshela are both headed to Triple-A Columbus.

Anthony Santander (elbow) will open the season on the 10-day disabled list.

Elbow inflammation has sidelined Santander for the past couple of weeks. Placing him on the DL buys the Orioles more time to figure out what to do with him. The 22-year-old is an exciting talent but spent all of last year at High-A and probably isn't ready for the major leagues.
Mar 30 - 4:59 PM

The Orioles announced Chris Tillman (shoulder) will begin the season on the 10-day disabled list.

So will Wade Miley (illness) and Anthony Santander (elbow). Tillman has been nursing a shoulder injury for the last month but recently resumed throwing and is tentatively scheduled to pitch in an extended spring training game on April 11. If that goes well, he could be ready to join the rotation by the end of April. Tillman's 16 victories last year matched a career-high.
