Steven Wright held the Pirates to one run across four innings of work on Tuesday.

The knuckleballer issued three walks and recorded only two strikeouts, but he was able to limit the damage to a single tally. Wright was a little behind schedule to begin spring training due to a nagging injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder, but he's gone out and put up a 0.68 ERA over 13 1/3 frames this spring to erase any doubt about his health.

Drew Hutchison was lit up for nine runs on 10 hits and two walks over just 3 2/3 frames against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

This isn't the last impression Hutchison was looking to make before the Pirates pick a No. 5 starter. Six of the runs came in the first inning, and the righty was touched up for three more in the fourth. Hutchison has been absolutely dreadful over his last three starts this spring, pushing his Grapefruit League ERA up to 10.02. It would be a surprise if he cracks the rotation at this point.

Mookie Betts ripped a two-RBI double and a two-run homer on Tuesday versus the Pirates.

Betts took Drew Hutchison deep in the first inning and then got to the right-hander again in the fourth when he plated a pair with a two-bagger. The outfielder has belted two home runs this spring and has batted .340 with a .981 OPS. He appears ready to get the season started.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is considering batting Nick Castellanos lower in the batting order rather than second.

Castellanos has been hitting second regularly this spring and has been viewed as the favorite to stay in the spot for the regular season. It might still happen, but Ausmus is a little worried about the middle of the order while J.D. Martinez (foot) is out. That could mean batting him sixth instead of second, which really doesn't make sense. Hopefully Ausmus comes to his senses.

Cubs re-assigned 2B Jemile Weeks and OF Chris Dominguez to minor league camp.

Both players are currently injured. Weeks will try to come back as depth at Triple-A Iowa after he recovers from a knee ailment.
Mar 28 - 9:20 PM

Rule 5 pick LHP Caleb Smith has been returned to the Yankees.

The Cubs took a shot on Smith, but he never had a really good shot of cracking their roster. The southpaw posted a 4.26 ERA with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings this spring.

Jesus Aguilar has made the Brewers' roster.

There wasn't any doubt, as Aguilar is out of options and has mashed the ball to the tune of a .463 average, six homers and 16 RBI this spring. The former Indians prospect should see some starts against left-handed pitching and it's not out of the question that he could push Eric Thames for the first base job if Thames gets off to a rough start.

Rockies signed C Ryan Hanigan to a minor league contract.

Hanigan caught on quickly after being cut loose by the Phillies on Monday. MLB.com's Thomas Harding says the deal is worth $1.25 million if Hanigan is in the majors. It's unclear whether the plan is for the Rockies to immediately add him to the big league roster, but he could serve as Tony Wolters' backup while Tom Murphy (forearm) recovers.
