Michael Cuddyer (hamstring) expects to sit out Friday's game but does not expect to need a trip to the disabled list.

Cuddyer tweaked his left hamstring after grounding out to shortstop in the seventh inning Thursday. The Rockies are calling him day-to-day, and is sounds like he should be ready to play sometime over the weekend.

Brendan Ryan (back) is slated to play in a minor league game on Saturday.

Ryan final resumed baseball activities a week ago and is now nearly ready for game action. The Yankees are expecting the shortstop to be ready to rejoin them sometime next month.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said that Jose Tabata will be available off the bench Thursday.

Tabata left Wednesday's game with what was called a mild concussion at the time, but the club has since determined he doesn't have a concussion at all. "He does not have a concussion," Hurdle said. "He went through a battery of tests today starting with the doctor. They do the concussion test, the computer test, he passed that. He ran on the field, went in the cage, reflexes, all the different activities that we could run him through, and he's going to be available off the bench."

Michael Cuddyer left Thursday's game against the Padres with a left hamstring cramp.

He came up gimpy after grounding out to shortstop in the seventh inning. It's good that the Rockies are only calling it a cramp, and they're listing Cuddyer as day-to-day for now. Still, he figures to miss at least a game or two.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Thursday that removing Tanner Scheppers from the rotation is "nothing that's crossed my mind."

"We know it's a work in progress," Washington added. Scheppers was battered for six runs over just 2 1/3 frames Thursday against the Mariners and now has a 9.82 ERA over his first four starts. He's pitched beyond the fifth inning on just one occasion. Still, the Rangers don't really have any great alternatives with Matt Harrison (back) not quite ready. Scheppers will be on the chopping block in a couple weeks when Harrison returns.

Buster Posey could sit out Friday's game after taking a foul tip off the shoulder in Thursday's game.

Posey stayed in to finish the game, but he's feeling a little sore. It's a good excuse to give him a little breather Friday and give Hector Sanchez a start.

Hyun-Jin Ryu spun seven scoreless innings in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Giants.

Ryu only struck out three, but he allowed just four hits -- all singles -- while walking one. The left-hander was rocked for eight runs -- six earned -- in his lone home start this season but has been untouchable (quite literally) on the road, tossing 26 scoreless frames. He'll have two home starts next week against the Phillies and Rockies.

Kenley Jansen allowed a run but still converted his fifth save of the season in Thursday's win over the Giants.

In fairness, Jansen probably wouldn't have given up a run had Michael Morse not reached to lead off the inning following a strikeout. Still, it certainly wasn't a clean outing, as Jansen walked one, yielded an RBI single and needed 30 pitches to complete the inning. He's nailed down five saves already but has blown a pair and holds a 5.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP.
