Suzuki will be away for the weekend in order to attend his grandfather's funeral. Anthony Recker has replaced him on the roster.

Matt Koch is an option to make a spot start for the Diamondbacks on Saturday against the Nationals.

There's a chance Taijuan Walker will be back from paternity leave by then, but manager Torey Lovullo said they're "not counting on it." If Koch isn't needed out of the bullpen Friday, he could fill in Saturday. The righty holds an ugly 8.47 ERA over four starts at Triple-A Reno this season.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Rangers "have started reaching out to teams potentially interested in acquiring" Yu Darvish.

The Rangers aren't committed to selling yet, but they're 4.5 games out of the second American League Wild Card spot and are behind five other teams chasing the Rays and Yankees. If they do wind up selling, Darvish would immediately become the best available rental pitcher on the market. Passan lists the Astros, Brewers, Yankees, Indians, Rockies and Dodgers as teams that he could see as having interest in the impending free agent, although it's unclear at this point which, if any, of those clubs have talked to the Rangers about Darvish at this point.

Neil Walker (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Monday.

Walker will begin a short rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. He'll return to his starting spot at second base, pushing Asdrubal Cabrera to third. Walker has been on the shelf since mid-June with a torn left hamstring.

Athletics recalled RHP Frankie Montas from Triple-A Nashville.

Montas holds a 6.91 ERA over 21 relief appearances with the A's this season. He'll provide length in the bullpen.

Brett Gardner went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Mariners.

The Yankees had just one hit to their credit (a dunk single by Chase Headley) against Felix Hernandez until Gardner added to the total in emphatic fashion in the sixth inning, pulling a no-doubter to right to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Gardner has been incredibly hot-and-cold this season and it looks like he might be heating up again, having gone 5-for-15 with three extra-base hits in his last three games.

Aroldis Chapman surrendered one run on one hit while striking out two in the ninth inning of Thursday's win over the Mariners.

No save on this one. Chapman had the luxury of a 4-0 lead when he entered to start the bottom of the ninth inning. Even with the advantage, he looked immediately shaky, walking Mike Zunino on five pitches to open the frame and throwing a wild pitch to allow a pinch-running Guillermo Heredia to reach second. Following back-to-back strikeouts on sliders, Chapman would give up an RBI double to Robinson Cano before finally closing out the win. The flamethrowing southpaw owns a 3.65 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 37/12 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings this season. He is 10-for-13 in save chances.

Robinson Cano went 3-for-5 with an RBI double in Thursday's loss to the Yankees.

The Yankees held a 4-0 lead in the ninth inning before Cano finally broke through with a gap RBI double against Aroldis Chapman to score the team's lone run of the contest. While the All-Star second baseman has not put up a season quite as glorious as his 2016 campaign, he is still slashing a respectable .271/.333/.472 with 18 homers and 65 RBI in 86 games played.
