Desmond Jennings (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.
He's been working out with the Charlotte Stone Crabs since the weekend and has now been cleared to play in live games. Jennings will probably spend the rest of this week in the minor leagues. He has been out since July 1 because of a left hamstring strain.
Orioles designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment.
Borbon was 2-for-9 in his short stay at the major league level. He will probably clear waivers.
Logan Morrison (wrist) is out of the Rays' lineup again on Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Morrison has been out a full week because of tendinitis in his wrist and forearm. Steve Pearce is starting at first base for Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.
Rangers optioned OF Jared Hoying to Triple-A Round Rock.
The move opens a roster spot for 22-year-old slugger Joey Gallo, who has been called up to Arlington, Texas. Hoying owns a .554 OPS this year at the big league level.
Rangers recalled INF/OF Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock.
Gallo has posted a .949 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at the Triple-A level. Plate discipline remains an issue for the 22-year-old, but he has incredible raw power and could take on significant fantasy value if he finds a good offensive groove and regular playing time in Texas. Gallo has appeared in 23 games at first base and 33 games at third base this year with Round Rock. He played a lot of left field last year.
Trevor Plouffe (rib) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of this week.
But manager Paul Molitor cautioned that the middle of next week is more likely. Plouffe has been on the disabled list since July 4 with a fractured rib. He was batting just .252/.283/.399 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 58 games before the injury.
Julio Teheran (lat) is expected to start Saturday at home against the Phillies.
Teheran will get a bit of extra rest after leaving his last outing Friday against the Rockies because of a mild lat strain. He played long toss at 120 feet on Tuesday and threw his slider on flat ground. The 25-year-old right-hander boasts a 2.71 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 115/28 K/BB ratio in 129 2/3 innings this season for Atlanta.
Julio Teheran (lat) made it through a throwing session without issue on Tuesday.
Teheran played long toss at 120 feet and even threw his slider on flat ground. The right-hander was pulled from his last start Friday against the Rockies because of a mild lat strain. It's not clear when he will start next, but it should be pretty soon. Teheran is one of the Braves' most attractive trade chips leading up to the August 1 deadline.
