Making his Royals debut, Johnny Cueto allowed three runs over six innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Cueto didn't have his best command in his first start with his new club, but it was good enough for a quality start. He gave up seven hits and walked a pair while striking out seven batters. The new Royals' ace will get the Tigers next time out.
Jul 31 - 11:43 PM

Kevin Pillar was 2-for-4 with an RBI single against the Royals on Friday.

Pillar hit .283 over 25 games this month, but oddly he drove in just four runs. Either way, he should remain Toronto's regular center fielder even after Friday's addition of Ben Revere. Revere will likely share playing time with Chris Colabello in left field.
Jul 31 - 11:43 PM

Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-6 with two runs scored in Friday's extra-inning win over the Royals.

Tulowitzki singled with one out in the 11th inning and eventually came around to score the winning run on Josh Donaldson's walk-off single. With Devon Travis (shoulder) back on the disabled list, the slugging shortstop appears likely to stick in the leadoff spot for Toronto.

Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base Friday against the Blue Jays.

The hot-hitting continues for Cain, who wraps up July with a .367 batting average. The 29-year-old is batting .314/.371/.504 on the year and has already set a career-high with 11 home runs. He's currently on pace for new career-highs in RBI and stolen bases as well.

Pirates promoted 1B Josh Bell to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The second ranked prospect in the Pirates system, Bell hit .310/.379/.431 with five homers and 60 RBI in 95 games at Double-A Altoona. The 22-year-old is now just one step away from debuting with the Buccos, and should get that opportunity in September.
Jul 31 - 11:39 PM

Jedd Gyorko went 3-for-4 and drove home three runs on Friday as the Padres topped the Marlins 8-3 in 11 innings.

Gyorko tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the fourth inning and delivered a two-run single as part of a five-run uprising in the 11th. While he has picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks, he is still hitting just .233/.296/.350 with 21 RBI on the year.
Jul 31 - 11:31 PM

Ian Kennedy delivered a strong performance in a no-decision on Friday, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven innings against the Marlins.

Kennedy punched out five and walked two on the night. The Marlins scratched out a pair of runs in the first inning, but the veteran right-hander was able to settle in nicely afterwards, shutting the Fish down in his final six frames. Kennedy left with a 3-2 lead and in line for his seventh victory, but Craig Kimbrel was unable to convert his save chance. He'll take on the Brewers in Milwaukee his next time out on Wednesday.
Jul 31 - 11:28 PM

Derek Dietrich slugged a game-tying solo homer off Craig Kimbrel with two outs in the ninth inning on Friday.

Unfortunately for the Marlins, his heroics went for naught as they fell in extra innings to the Padres. It was the lone hit in four at-bats on the night for Dietrich who is hitting .273/.373/.545 with six homers and eight RBI in his limited action this season.
