James Paxton (pectoral) hopes to begin playing catch this weekend.

Paxton remains in shutdown mode with a strained left pectoral muscle, but he told reporters Tuesday that he's feeling much better and he has a check-up exam scheduled for this Friday. We should have a clearer picture about his timetable by Saturday. Paxton hit the disabled list August 11 with a 12-3 record, 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 138/33 K/BB ratio in 119 2/3 innings this season.

Jedd Gyorko (knee) finished 1-for-3 in the Cardinals' loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday.

It was his first start since last Friday. Gyorko, who's been working through some right knee discomfort, owns a weak .182/.267/.273 batting line in 26 games since the All-Star break. He batted .300/.364/.519 in the first half of the season.

Shin-Soo Choo went 1-for-5 with an RBI infield single in his return to the Rangers' lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.

Choo was held out of Monday's series opener versus Detroit due to a couple of minor ailments. The veteran outfielder has just one extra-base hit over 50 plate appearances so far in the month of August.
Aug 16 - 8:36 AM

Cory Spangenberg finished with a double, a solo home run, two runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's game against Philadelphia.

The RBI total was a single-game career high. Spangenberg is enjoying quite the week. He has hit safely in seven straight, including multi-hit efforts in each of his past four outings. He has also homered in a career-high three straight, posting four homers and eight RBI during the impressive stretch.
Aug 16 - 4:40 AM

Hector Sanchez swatted a two-run home run and he finished with a run scored across four at-bats in Tuesday's win against Philadelphia.

Sanchez doesn't play frequently enough to rely upon outside of the deepest of seasonal formats. However, he is up to eight homers and he is a pretty decent value in DFS for his power potential.
Aug 16 - 4:37 AM

Dinelson Lamet allowed two earned runs, three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings in a win against the Phillies on Tuesday.

Lamet is 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA in three outings in the month of August, and the rookie has won four straight decisions dating back to his last loss on July 18 in Colorado. He'll look to keep it rolling on Sunday in the homestand finale against Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals.
Aug 16 - 4:33 AM

Jorge Alfaro connected for his first major league home run in Tuesday's loss in San Diego.

Alfaro's two-run home run off of rookie Dinelson Lamet certainly made him feel better after picking up his second error of the season on a throwing miscue. The backstop has hit safely in each of his first games since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley back on Aug. 5.
Aug 16 - 4:27 AM

Rhys Hoskins belted a two-run home run in Tuesday's game in San Diego, his only hit across four at-bats.

Hoskins, a Sacramento native, has enjoyed his first two major league games in his home state of California. He has belted three homers with four RBI in his first two career road games while posting at least one RBI in three straight outings. His power potential makes him a useful mixed-league option down the stretch.
