P.J. Walters - S - Twins

Twins purchased the contract of RHP P.J. Walters from Triple-A Rochester.

Walters will make his season debut Saturday against the Tigers. He posted a 3.31 ERA with 46 strikeouts over 54 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level, but can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Joe Benson - OF - Rangers

Rangers claimed OF Joe Benson off waivers from the Twins.

Benson struggled mightily at Triple-A Rochester this season, batting just .192 with one home run in 42 games. The Twins no longer viewed Benson as worthy of a 40-man roster spot and needed to clear room for Saturday's starter P.J. Walters.

Stephen Drew - SS - Red Sox

Stephen Drew is not in Saturday's lineup against the Indians.

Drew is hitless in his last 17 at-bats since returning from a back injury, so the Red Sox are hoping that the day off can get him back on track. Jose Iglesias is starting at shortstop in his place.

Curtis Granderson - OF - Yankees

Yankees placed OF Curtis Granderson on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured fifth metacarpal of his left hand.

Granderson suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning of Friday night’s game. It's a troubling development for the Yankees, who will be forced to go with Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch in his absence. Granderson is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks.

Brennan Boesch - OF - Yankees

Yankees recalled OF Brennan Boesch from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Boesch will replace Curtis Grandeson on the active roster. He batted just .209 with a .244 on-base percentage through 20 games with the Yankees prior to being sent down earlier this month.

Pedro Strop - R - Orioles

Orioles placed RHP Pedro Strop on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24, with a lower back strain.

The move clears a spot on the 25-man roster for Steve Johnson. Strop has a 6.11 ERA with 14 walks over 17 2/3 innings with the Orioles.

Rubby De La Rosa - R - Red Sox

Rubby De La Rosa (intercoastal) has resumed a throwing program.

De La Rosa was scratched from his start Tuesday with an intercoastal strain but is expected to make a quick return to the Triple-A Pawtucket rotation. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.65 ERA and 29/14 K/BB ratio over eight starts (25 innings) this season.

Miguel Sano - 3B - Twins

Miguel Sano leads all Florida State League third baseman in total chances, putouts and assists and ranks third in range factor.

There's been some concern over whether Sano can stay at third base in the long-term, but he's made enough progress that he won't be moving anytime soon. Through his first 44 games this season, Sano is batting .348/.442/.689 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI at the Twins' High-A affiliate.
