Rangers acquired OF Josh Hamilton from the Angels for cash considerations.
Alex Rodriguez is starting at third base for the Yankees on Monday night versus the Rays.
It's his second start of the season at the hot corner. A-Rod has been among the most productive players in baseball in the early going this year, boasting a .989 OPS with five home runs, 13 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 18 games for the Yankees. He's one home run away from tying Willie Mays on the all-time leaderboard.
Red Sox prospect Ty Buttrey didn't allow a hit in five innings Sunday for Low-A Greenville.
The game went 14 innings, so Buttrey didn't factor in the decision. He finished the outing with seven strikeouts, one off his season-high. Opponents have hit just .210 against Buttrey this season with two homers. The 22-year-old has shown pinpoint control, surrendering only three walks in 22 innings.
Marlins activated C Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the paternity leave list; designated him for assignment.
Salty was signed to a three-year, $21 million free agent contract before the 2014 season, but he struggled in his first summer with Miami and was off to a terrible start in 2015. 24-year-old prospect J.T. Realmuto has emerged as the Marlins' best option at catcher. Salty will presumably pass through waivers because of the money he is owed. He would then hit the free agent market, and should draw considerable interest there.
Red Sox recalled RHP Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Wright will give the Red Sox some much-needed bullpen depth in the wake of Sunday's 18-7 drubbing in Baltimore. The 30-year-old righty has a cool 3.66 career ERA.
Red Sox optioned RHP Heath Hembree to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Hembree was only in the majors for Sunday's game, and he got rocked for six earned runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief against the Orioles. Steven Wright takes his spot.
Alexei Ramirez is not in the White Sox starting lineup Monday versus the Orioles.
It's just a day of rest for Ramirez. Gordon Beckham is starting at shortstop and Conor Gillaspie is playing third base Monday against O's righty Ubaldo Jimenez.
Chris Young is expected to start for the Royals on Friday night against the Tigers.
But manager Ned Yost left open the possibility that he'll have to use Young out of the bullpen before that outing. Young wouldn't be a very good fantasy bet anyway versus Detroit. He's been working in relief all month.
