Anthony Ranaudo pitched well in Friday's Cactus League start against the Athletics, allowing two runs on five hits over his six innings of work.

The young right-hander struck out three and didn't issue a walk in the ballgame. He's keeping hope alive to secure one of the final spots in the Opening Day rotation, despite holding a 5.02 ERA in Cactus League play.

Jorge Soler launched one of four Cubs home runs off Jeff Samardzija on Friday as they dispatched of the White Sox 6-3 in Cactus League action.

Soler was the first to take Samardzija out of the yard on Friday, blasting a two-run homer to put the Cubs on the board in the first inning. Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro and Chris Coghlan would each get in on the fun before the afternoon was through. Soler has been mighty impressive in Cactus League play, hitting .333 (14-for-42) with three homers and nine RBI.

Jason Hammel was strong in Friday's victory over the White Sox, allowing two runs on six hits over his six innings.

The veteran right-hander struck out a pair and didn't walk a batter in the ballgame. All of the damage against him came on a two-run homer off the bat of Tyler Flowers in the fifth inning. The 32-year-old has looked good through five spring starts and his fantasy value is trending upwards with his return to the National League.

Melky Cabrera clubbed his first home run as a member of the White Sox in a losing effort against the Cubs on Friday.

Cabrera victimized Cubs closer Hector Rondon for the solo shot in the ninth inning. The veteran outfielder also added a pair of singles, finising the afternoon 3-for-4 to raise his spring average to .357. He should be a tremendous source of runs hitting in front of Jose Abreu and Adam LaRoche in a much improved White Sox lineup.

Jeff Samardzija had a rough day on the hill in Friday's Cactus League outing against the Cubs, allowing six runs on seven hits over his six innings of work.

On the plus side, Samardzija piled up nine strikeouts on the afternoon without issuing a walk. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Jorge Soler and Chris Coghlan each bashing two-run homers, and Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo tacking on solo shots. He owns a terrific 15/2 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings in Cactus League play, but owns a disappointing 7.79 ERA which can be attributed to the eight home runs that he has surrendered.
Mar 27 - 8:06 PM

A.J. Griffin successfully threw a 50-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin was on hand for the session and noted that "all of his pitches look great." He still isn't expected to join the A's rotation until June as he continues to recover from last April's Tommy John surgery, but it certainly appears that he's on the right path.

Nick Evans had a strong day at the dish, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored as a split-squad Diamondbacks team topped the Angels 7-2 in Cactus League play.

Evans is back in camp with the Diamondbacks after leaving to play in Japan midway through the 2014 season. While he's having a strong spring hitting .333 (8-for-24), he isn't expected to crack the Opening Day roster and will function as organizational depth at Triple-A Reno to begin the year.
Mar 27 - 7:47 PM

Archie Bradley delivered another strong Cactus League start in Friday's victory over the Angels, allowing one run on six hits over his five innings of work.

The hard-throwing right-hander walked one and struck out a pair on the afternoon. While he's slated to begin the season at Triple-A, he has impressed in spring play with a 2.20 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings. He should debut with the Diamondbacks at some point during the upcoming season.
