Jeimer Candelario scored five times while going 3-for-5 Wednesday in the Tigers’ 13-10 win over the Pirates.

Candelario doubled, singled and homered while also reaching base on a fielder’s choice and a throwing error. His lone RBI came in the sixth inning when he launched a solo shot to right field off Pirates reliever Edgar Santana. That was one of four home runs hit by the Tigers on Wednesday. Candelario is beginning his first full season in the big leagues but you wouldn’t know it by the way he’s been hitting. He’s hit .292 in the early going with four round-trippers, six doubles and 11 RBI.

Jordan Zimmermann let up six hits and six runs (three earned) over three innings Wednesday in the Tigers’ win over the Pirates.

Zimmermann struck out four and walked one over 66 pitches. Pitching the first game of a double-header, Zimmermann did the Tigers’ bullpen no favors by delivering one of his shortest starts of the season. The right-hander was done in by the long ball, allowing home runs to Colin Moran and Francisco Cervelli before exiting. Zimmermann has been an absolute train wreck this year, delivering a nauseating 7.91 ERA through his first five starts. The right-hander hasn’t been the same since leaving the Nationals three years ago and may not be long for the starting rotation if this keeps up.
Apr 25 - 8:15 PM

Pablo Sandoval supplied two hits Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Nationals.

He reached in three of his four plate appearances with a single, a walk and an RBI double. That double came in the sixth inning off three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer. This was a rare start for Sandoval, who has spent much of the year backing up Evan Longoria at third base. Panda owns a .242 average with 12 strikeouts in 33 at-bats this season.
Apr 25 - 7:45 PM

Jeff Samardzija was roughed up for eight hits and six runs in only 3 2/3 innings Wednesday in the Giants’ loss to the Nationals.

He fanned three and also issued three free passes over his 86 pitches. Samardzija got off to a disastrous start, yielding three first-inning runs on three hits with two coming on a two-out double by Andrew Stevenson. He put up blank slates in the second and third innings but unraveled in the fourth, serving up a three-run homer to Matt Adams that would ultimately end his outing. The former Notre Dame football star will try to get back on track in his next start Monday against the Padres.
Apr 25 - 7:43 PM

Matt Adams plated six of the Nationals’ 15 runs Wednesday in a win over San Francisco.

Adams entered Wednesday’s action with four RBI for the year. He bettered that in a single afternoon, shredding the Giants for three hits including a three-run homer off Jeff Samardzija. Adams added to the carnage by driving in another two runs in the eighth inning, increasing the Nationals’ lead to 13 (seriously). The three hits Adams provided Wednesday were as many as he had in his previous six games COMBINED. If you were bold enough to use Adams in DFS today, go collect your winnings.
Apr 25 - 7:41 PM

Andrew Stevenson drove in four runs as part of a 4-for-5 afternoon Wednesday in the Nationals’ 15-2 victory over the Giants.

He also drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning. It seemed everything Stevenson touched on Wednesday turned to gold. Two of his four hits went for extra bases including a two-run double in the first inning. Stevenson has impressed since his call-up last week, delivering five hits in 10 at-bats for the big club.
Apr 25 - 7:39 PM

Trea Turner impressed with five hits Wednesday in the Nationals’ blowout win over the Giants.

Turner’s day included four singles, two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. The Nats absolutely slaughtered the Giants in this one, cruising to a season-high 15 runs including six off starter Jeff Samardizja. Wednesday’s outburst raised Turner’s season average from .232 to .267. That’s lower than it should be, though Turner has remained a fantasy asset by collecting 10 steals, which leads the National League.
Apr 25 - 7:38 PM

Max Scherzer allowed five hits and two runs over six innings Wednesday in the Nationals’ win over the Giants.

He struck out 10 and walked two while throwing 74 of his 99 pitches for strikes. Scherzer went 0-for-4 at the plate, which ended his four-game hitting streak. The stakes were pretty low for Scherzer in this one as the three-time Cy Young winner spent most of the afternoon pitching with a gigantic lead. He yielded a run in the second inning on an RBI double to Nick Hundley and let another run come across in the sixth on an RBI double by Pablo Sandoval. Scherzer has been dominant as usual in the early going, cruising to a 1.62 ERA through six starts. He’ll take a four-start winning streak into his next outing Tuesday against Pittsburgh.
