Masahiro Tanaka shut out the Cubs for eight innings as the Yankees grabbed a 3-0 win in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Tanaka was scheduled to pitch on Tuesday but the game was called because of rain. He looked well-rested on Wednesday afternoon, yielding just two hits and one walk over his eight shutout frames while racking up 10 strikeouts. It was Tanaka's most dominant start so far in the major leagues, and he'll carry an outstanding 2-0 record, 2.05 ERA, and 0.77 WHIP into his next scheduled outing against the Rays.

Miguel Gonzalez picked up his first win of the season Wednesday, tossing five scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Rays.

Gonzalez whiffed six batters while allowing just three hits and three walks. He did need 98 pitches to get through five, which is one he was removed relatively early. Still, Gonzalez has now been solid for two outings in a row after being blasted in his first start of the season. He'll try to keep the momentum going next week in Toronto.

Shawn Kelley collected his fourth save of the season in the Yankees' win over the Cubs in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Kelley gave up a two-out single to Anthony Rizzo in the top of the ninth inning and then Rizzo advanced to second base on fielder's indifference, but Kelley rallied back to strike out Nate Schierholtz and end the threat. Kelley remains a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues until David Robertson returns from the disabled list.
Apr 16 - 4:01 PM

Carlos Beltran hit his fourth home run as the Yankees beat the Cubs in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Beltran hit his solo shot in the bottom of the first inning and then drew a walk in the bottom of the third. He's batting .313 with a 1.025 OPS so far in pinstripes.

Tommy Hunter notched his fourth save of the season with a scoreless inning in Wednesday's win over the Rays.

Hunter allowed a leadoff single to Desmond Jennings to start the ninth but bounce back with a groundout, a flyout and then a strikeout to end it. The Orioles closer blew a save the last time out but has pitched well overall this year, holding a 3.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to go along with a 5/0 K/BB ratio.
Apr 16 - 3:57 PM

Jason Hammel surrendered three earned runs over seven innings as the Cubs dropped the first half of Wednesday's day-night doubleheader at Yankee Stadium

Hammel served up a solo home run to Carlos Beltran in the bottom of the first inning and then single runs in the fourth and fifth. He'll carry a 2-1 record, 3.05 ERA, and 0.73 WHIP into his next outing versus Arizona.
Apr 16 - 3:56 PM

Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 in the Cubs' loss to the Yankees in the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The Cubs only collected three total hits in the game -- Junior Lake had the other one -- and they were all singles. Rizzo is batting .333/.397/.490 on the year.
Apr 16 - 3:54 PM

Jake Odorizzi was charged with three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

Odorizzi wasn't hit hard, as the Orioles didn't have a single extra-base hit and scored their runs on a sac fly, a groundout and an infield single. However, the righty was a little wild and required 95 pitches to cover the five frames. Odorizzi, who holds a 5.63 ERA over his first three outings, will try to bounce back next week against the Twins.
