Alex Rodriguez had a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning Friday against the Rays.

Long time, no see. This was A-Rod’s first appearance in a game since last Friday. The 41-year-old is hitting just .210 with nine homers and a .625 OPS over 59 games this season. He continues to take grounders at first base before games, but look for him to continue to have a diminished role.
Jul 29 - 10:27 PM

Edwin Encarnacion socked his 28th home run of the season on Friday, powering the Blue Jays to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Orioles.

Encarnacion hit one of three first-inning solo shots off O's starter Kevin Gausman, as Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki also tagged him. Encarnacion also doubled and walked in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. He's now hitting .265/.357/.549 with 28 bombs and a league-leading 88 RBI on the season.
Jul 29 - 10:22 PM

Marco Estrada earned his sixth victory of the season on Friday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings against the Orioles.

Estrada racked up six strikeouts on the night while issuing a pair of walks. The O's got to him early, with a two-run double from Mark Trumbo in the first inning, but the right-hander was able to settle in nicely afterwards. He has been tremendous for the Jays this season, registering a 3.02 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 108/42 K/BB ratio across 116 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Astros his next time out in Houston on Wednesday.
Jul 29 - 10:20 PM

Manny Machado clubbed his 22nd home run of the season on Friday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Orioles past the Blue Jays.

Machado's solo shot came in the eighth inning and pulled the O's to within a run at 6-5, but that would be as close as they would get. He finished the night 1-for-2 plus a pair of walks and scored three of his club's five total runs. Machado is now slashing .309/.370/.554 with 22 homers and 58 RBI on the year.
Jul 29 - 10:17 PM

Kevin Gausman was hammered in a losing effort against the Blue Jays on Friday night, allowing six runs on six hits in only three innings.

The right-hander walked three and struck out four in the ballgame. The Jays jumped on him early in this one, with Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion and Troy Tulowitzki each belting solo homers in the first inning. They pushed across three more runs in the third inning to chase Gausman. Now 2-8 on the season, he'll bring a 4.18 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into Thursday's start against the Rangers.
Jul 29 - 10:15 PM

Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated Friday that David Ortiz is likely to sit on Saturday.

It'll be a well-deserved day of rest for the veteran slugger against Angels left-hander Hector Santiago. The 40-year-old is having perhaps his finest season as a pro, slashing .325/.417/.657 with 25 homers and 84 RBI in 93 games.
Jul 29 - 9:28 PM

Eduardo Nunez has arrived in San Francisco and will be available off of the bench for Friday's game against the Nationals.

He'll make his first start with his new club on Saturday. The All-Star shortstop was hitting .296 with 12 homers, 47 RBI and 26 stolen bases with the Twins prior to Thursday's trade.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Rays have had recent trade talks with the Dodgers and could be involved as the third team in a potential deal with the Reds.

A potential three-team deal that would send Jay Bruce to the Dodgers appears to be gaining traction, with Yasiel Puig likely heading out the door in that scenario. Where there's this much smoke, there's usually fire, so stay tuned to see how this one develops.
